Monthly Musings Vol. 9

iPhone wallpaper #iPhone wallpaper #xmasWallpaper:

I cannot believe we’ve made it to the end of the year! I don’t even know what to say. December is always such a reflective time for me; it’s the end of the year, my birthday, Z’s birthday, holidays. 2016 has been a beautiful year for me; We started it in New Orleans and Texas and have ended the year in Iceland. We’ve celebrated 100 years of National Parks, WE GOT ENGAGED.

And now, we welcome in 2017. Man, it’s going to be one HECK of a year. I’m excited for the styles that are to come, and to continue honing my own personal style, growing my blog and social media, and taking on new consulting clients and brands to work with. I’m excited to travel a little bit, to locations old and new, starting with another trip to Providence in January, Charleston in February, and home to NYC in March! Our wedding will be in the fall and then our honeymoon will be amazing, I can already tell; Two adventurous souls taking on new cultures.

  1. Pixie Market is a DREAM and these picks are the perfect post-holiday pick-me-up.
  2. Guys, we’re getting older. Some of us are on the wrong side of 30 and the rest of us are inching towards it. This guide from TheEveryGirl gives advice on what to expect.
  3. Sarah Paulson’s career advice will keep you grounded and inspired. We are still so young.
  4. Make 2017 the year you shop consciously with this list of sustainable brands
  5. Guys I’m literally dying over this Buzzfeed list of 100 funny pictures.
  6. A map of each state’s favorite make-up you say? It’s pretty on point and so interesting to see where the brands stack up.

Wishlisting wears: (1) I’ve always loved the Gucci Animalier collection, but this wallet might actually need to be mine. (2) Valentine’s Day is next month and I’m already considering this dress as the perfect red and cream date-night piece. (3) That dress paired with these floral embroidered boots would make the perfect edgy look! (4) Winter is just beginning but this ruffled sweater, only $40, would keep me happy and warm all season long.

Counting Down to 2017

2016 – what. a. year.

We saw many personal highs, like getting engaged, getting new jobs/promotions, expanding our circle of friends. Traveling the National Parks for their centennial celebration, horseback riding in Texas, oggling the Grand Canyon, and freezing our limbs off in Iceland (which we’re still currently doing).

We encountered numerous national lows; the tragic deaths of David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Prince, George Michael, Carrie Fisher…just to name a few. We watched our government go from the first black president and a wonderful family into the hands of a womanizer and his team of racists. We’ve watched terrorism thrive across the world as tensions rise among harrowed immigrants fleeing horrendous situations. We saw animals die for causes and learned how compassionate the world can be when rallying together (looking at you, Harambe Memes).

With all that has happened I am ready to put 2016 behind me and start looking forward to 2017. While scary things are afoot for our country’s economy and government, there are plenty of positives to focus on — our wedding, our honeymoon, our monthly travels we have planned (first up: Providence, Charleston, and New York City!) and mapping out the rest of our lives together. Here’s hoping for a fabulous and sparkling 2017 for us all.

Holiday Glitz

Glam holiday dressing with DC Blogger Que Sera Sahra
Christmas is upon us! And with it comes the Holiday parties and any excuse to dress up. This year it’s all about the pleated metallic skirt.

Last year’s season for our annual holiday cards we did something a little different. After a photo shoot with photographer Mark Chen in an abandoned mansion we decided to don some festive wear and get some shots in. The end result is here! I’m in love with the photos; unexpected and cool. I chose the dress because it was slightly festive with shimmering green, but also because it reminds me so much of the omnipresent AW Gucci ads’ green pleated skirt.

Favorite Position: CEO

You know when a movie just has exceptional styling? And you spend hours trying to figure out where everything is from, why it’s styled so well, who styled it, how to get similar pieces?

That was me after watching The Intern. Anne Hathaway’s character is a total Boss (even if she has some character flaws, but I won’t ruin the ending) and is always a perfect mix of classic and casual. Almost every scene showed her in wide leg, high waisted silk trousers. So you know what I did? I spent the next two weeks buying every pair of high waisted silk trousers in my size from local thrift stores. I’m not even kidding I got about 6 pairs. Mind you, I work in a very casual office so these weren’t even necessary but who cares? I’m ready to start embracing the modern CEO look! Now, I just need to start a bomb a** company and make the moolah. In the interim, here’s a fun but classic corporate look to inspire all you fellow worker bee’s to step it up in the office!

Over The River and Through The Woods

The holidays are such a lovely time; I wish we could embrace the smell of fir, the complimentary colors of the season, the fun of shopping for custom gifts for all the special people in your life. I love shopping for my loved ones so much that I actually begin shopping in the summer, burrowing away trinkets and gifts like a squirrel before hibernation.

Put a Little Dance in Your Step

Holiday season has officially begun! I’m so excited because though the holidays are fun and all it’s also mine and my beau’s birthdays! That means extra parties and so many good reasons to get dressed up! This festive look totally has me feeling like the salsa dancer emoji and I’m so not mad about it.

2016 Holiday Cards

The holidays are such a joyous time, a reflection upon the past year and a time to celebrate and share. This is our third year sending out photo holiday cards and when it comes time to send them out we always go running to TinyPrints. Our cards have always come out beautifully, and we love the foil options and to choose a fun envelope insert (chevron is our go to!) Choosing a quality non-denominational card is always important as well and their selection is beautiful and festive.

Have you ordered your holiday cards yet? If not, order here to receive 10 free cards with your order!

Monthly Musings Vol. 8

Welcome to December! I cannot believe we’re here! This year has been flying by (I feel like I say that monthly). November was a fast month, full of family for the holidays, shopping for December’s holidays, so much food, and so many great friends! I said Yes to “The Dress” this month, which is a big weight off my shoulders in the way of wedding planning, and started ticking even more off of our wedding planning checklist.

As we gear up for December I am full of excitement. Z’s birthday is just around the corner, with mine following after that. There’s holiday parties galore and I’m so excited to get into the festive spirit and have some good excuses to get all dressed up! And the most exciting part? We’re going to be heading to spend Christmas with Santa in the North Pole! Actually! well, basically…we’re headed off to Reykjavik and exploring Iceland. The Northern Lights on Christmas has me giddy with excitement!

On to my favorite reads of the month!

  1. PSA: BEYONCE HAS A LINE OF HOLIDAY GEAR. gimmegimmegimme!!!!
  2. Dictionary.com announced their Word of The Year and it is oh so appropo.
  3. Beat the burnout from holiday overload with these simple tips from Apartment Therapy.
  4. Style over fashion. And here’s how you become the master of your lewk.
  5. I just can’t stop LOLing over these animal names!
  6. I got the new iPhone and never once question the lack of a headphone jack. Going wireless makes it easy to get up from my desk without the possibility of accidentally dropping my phone. Refinery29 rounded up a great selection of wireless headphones…I’m looking at those rose gold Caeden’s.
  7. White bishes love rose everything, rosé wine, rose gold…and now rose gold hair? def considering trying it for the summer circuit!
  8. I, like, every other woman who grew up in Stars Hollow, spent the end of the month watching A Year in The Life. There’s been so many recaps, but I love Nylon’s advice for budding journalists.
  9. doing some holiday shopping on a budget? There’s sooo so many gift guides out there but I’m specifically loving everything on this list!
  10. DC babes, we’re getting an SJP store that Carrie Bradshaw would approve of! though, tbh, IDK how I feel about it being in a casino….
  11. The end of the year can tend to herald a need to try something new or to switch jobs. The Every Girl has you covered with how to look for a new job while you still have one.

wishlisting: (1) this dress looks like a Valentino dream, but for a fraction of the price. (2) Nike’s with a rose gold accent? yes please! (3) forever wishing I could wear For Love and Lemons outside the bedroom. (4) Feel like your very own VS angel in these dreamy pajamas. (5) Dear Holiday Parties, you need this dress, don’t you? those sleeves! idie.

Vintage ReMixed

It was a blustery Sunday as I approached DC’s Yards Park. As I walked in on coupled off bloggers snapping photos I realized I probably should have had a pre-mosa, a little liquid courage before embarking on a day of meeting a slew of local bloggers. The fabulous and friendly Dani approached, offering to help take my photos as I warmed to the ideas of new pals and longing for the promised bottomless mimosas.

When you meet a woman like Dani, who I first met a few weeks prior, you’re immediately engulfed by her welcoming demeanor. In the blogging community it’s hard to find that, but Dani is down to earth and real. She’s begun organizing events for bloggers within the District and Sunday’s vintage themed #bubblesandbloggers brunch was the first one I was able to attend. After downing my first mimosa and calming my social anxiety I embraced the chatter among new friends. Agua 301 supplied the delicious food and seriously bottomless drinks while our gaggle of girls introduced ourselves and chatted about everything from our jobs (classic DC talk) to what got us started in blogging, and to what favorite apps and products we use to help our blogs.

Tanned Leather

It’s hard to believe that this time last week temperatures were near the 70s; high for November, but a welcome last hurrah. As we go into these holidays I’m loving the cozy textures ubiquitous to colder temps, while getting the last use out of my lighter bags until next spring.
