“The evil eye is a curse believed to be cast by a malevolent glare, usually given to a person when they are unaware. Many cultures believe that receiving the evil eye will cause misfortune or injury. Talismans created to protect against the evil eye are also frequently called “evil eyes”

I’ve always been fascinated with the subtle omens of other cultures. Evil eyes can be seen in a number of cultures, under a number of names, all meaning about the same. The blue color though has also been striking to me.

Packing Essentials

As you’re reading this I’m far away from land; flying over the African continent as I make my way to South Africa for a glorious two weeks with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary. Here’s a peak into some of what I packed for the trip! (because I know y’all love a good flatlay)

His and Hers

Just some inspired flatlays of le boyfrand and I’s favorite every day necesities. I love the way the hues capture the femininity and masculinity of each, and I love that we are both so partial to Viktor and Rolf. I’ve loved Flowerbomb since college and I love that I managed to turn Z onto the spicy yet musky scent of Spicebomb.

do you have a favorite scent?

this post is not sponsored by Viktor and Rolf, or anyone.

No Point To Making Plans, The Wild Life is Human Nature

I want to get a move underway
I’m putting my thought in
I want to give all my worries away

Happy Labor Day! What a wonderful end of summer it has been; I’ve been at my parents’ vacation home in Maine, soaking up the rays and enjoying quality time with my family. While I”m as excited as any #fashiongirl for my Pumpkin Spice Soy Latte, I’m still hanging onto sunny days and maxi dresses. I wish it could be summer forever, but this one last fling will do until next year. But, alas, with summer ending and my beach trips commencing, it’s time to get focused. I’m ready to get down to business in planning some big things for the next few years of my life; watch out dreams, I’m coming for you full force!
Also, how amazing is my necklace!? It was a gift from jewelry designer, ThreeJaneNY to celebrate Z and I’s first home; a timeless piece that I will cherish forever. Her map necklaces (and manly cuff links!) are the perfect keepsake gift for anyone, whether it’s to remember a childhood home or to commemorate an abode of love, like mine.

Hello from the beach! I’m having a fabulous time, soaking in the last days of sundrenched summer with the most handsome man; pretending that Pumpkin Spice Soy Lattes are in our distant future (even if they’re popping up all over our news feeds). One song that we’ve been loving to keep the summer vibes alive is Only Real’s “Cadillac Girl”; one of those rare songs that encompasses the feeling and beats of a never ending summer. Also keeping things going? My new friendship bracelet motif-d wrap watch and my skull dangling bracelet, from Sara Designs NYC. The jovially resemblance to bracelets I’d spent my summers perfecting is a welcome nostalgic, as well as an adult-piece. The summer-y bold hues, also perfect for transitioning into a bohemian fall, make it a piece worth keeping, and sharing! whatt!? That’s right! You can score a friendship bracelet wrap watch of your own, by following both Sara Designs NYC and I on InstaGram, liking the photo from this post, and tagging two friends! It couldn’t be easier!

Safety pin necklace and midi rings from Nissa Jewelry

This beautiful, gorgeous handbag is the product of internet friendships turned IRL. Linell Ellis, local handbag designer, and I started talking on twitter before I realized she was local and we decided to meet for real. After showing me her latest handbag collection I was in love; everything is made from fine quality leather and metal, the “leopard” is dyed calf hair, and her logo is hand stamped with gold foil. Even just touching one of her masterpieces you can tell the care and thought that went into the design and product. Being able to take home one of these babies was a dream, even just for the weekend! As I eluded on InstaGram, picking which one was the hardest, especially with so many stunning clutches and practical cross body bags.

Oh Baby, There’s No Hesitation

I’ve said it before, I will say it again…and again and again. One of my favorite, vain things I love about myself is my versatility. Sure, most days I’ve got my shaved side showing, some days I go a step farther and flip down my septum ring. Then, there are the days I hide my punk facade with dainty gold and pearls. This cardigan was a gift, one I was very apprehensive about, but as soon as I figured out a way to “edge it out” it was hard to take off! I have worn it (on a number of occasions) with this maxi skirt, but have also thrown it over some high waisted black jeans with some combat style boots.

Step Into The Fire Feeling Hotter Than The Truth

I can feel the heat but I’m not burning
Feeling desire, feel the tired …
Feels like I’m falling20131101-195702.jpg

Another look featuring more of the items I purchased in my 24 hour cat phase; a lovely skirt chosen from Persun Mall (where I also chose the kitschy romantic bracelet). I tried to make this look a downtown meets office vibe; slouchy boots and socks contrasted with a structured blazer and a flirty skirt, alongside my edgy aesthetic. It’s definitely my current fave, and I’ve recently shared it on IFB’s weekly list! 20131101-200144.jpg20131101-195741.jpg20131101-195824.jpg20131101-195900.jpg

New In: Monogram Necklace + A Giveaway!!!

I love that these initial monogram necklaces are so big right now! A throwback to the 90’s and the ever-so-iconic “Carrie” necklace of the Sex And The City days. I’ve been seeing everyone from Lucy Hale to Lacey of ALaceyPerspective, and everyone everywhere. Pretty much.

Thank you to ONecklace for sending me this beautiful custom piece! Their team and I worked together to choose the perfect metal, cut, and style for me. I chose my initials, spelling out Sahra Katharine Schukraft, in a silver which will compliment my skin even at it’s palest. They ship from Jerusalem, which was said to take about 2 weeks but actually took less than one to reach me! I love the magnetic and ornate box to keep my cherished necklace safe and sound in when it’s not adorning my clavicle.

Now, it’s your turn to cash in on this trend! ONecklace is GIVING AWAY one FREE custom necklace to one lucky follower! And for those of you don’t win, score 10% off with code “GIFT” at check out! The giveaway is open worldwide, and you get to pick your choice of silver or gold, and which 3 initials you’d like!

We Know That Our Hearts Are Just Made Out of Strings

A second post from the whirlwind that has been my settling into life in the DMV! It’s been tedious…It’s been work. I’ve been unpacking, working, traveling, trying my best to explore and socialize, et cetera. What I’m craving most? A nice, relaxing evening involving a chill bean bag (remember those!?) and a movie with a bottle of wine, or a champagne cocktail. Alas, there’s much to be explored as I’m on the hunt for the perfect blog photographer, group of friends, brunch restaurant, lunch spot, dinner diggs, quality man; amongst maintaining my life at my new “home” with friends and new job. Confused/overwhelmed? So am I. These photos were shot by an area photographer, Kevin, who’s work can be found on his site here. He’s got a great eye and some great ideas, so I’m hoping you’ll be seeing more of his work up here!
