Nails of the Week: Chanel Drip

I kept seeing the below image floating around on Tumblr and was SO SO inspired! I had to try it out for myself, thankfully it was fairly easy, considering how I’ve become a sort of (self proclaimed) nail drip expert.

I started with a basic base coat, slightly whiter than the inspired image. I used Sally Hansen Hard Nails Xtreme Wear in ‘Bamboo Shoot”. Then, using the same drip technique I used here and here, I created my drips on most of my fingers, saving my pinky for the interlocking C’s, using Esse’s ‘Licorice’.

I then used my bobby pin and verrrry carefully drew in my C’s. Sadly, my left hand isn’t as sturdy as my right so when it came time to do it on my right hand it came out so horribly I had no choice but to paint the whole nail black. I topped each nail off with a top coat of N.Y.C.’s Nail Glossies in #201. Anyway, simple yet edgy chic. Ya dig!??

I’ll Take You In Pieces, We Can Take it All Apart

WOW it’s been a crazy day! If you follow me on InstaGram (@EffortlessCoolSahra) you’d have noticed that I was at work bright and early, narrowly avoided a fatal car accident, had a court hearing, ate lots of deliciousness, and a doctor’s appointment; all before the 90210 Season Finale. WOAH, right?

Rings from Forever 21 & Urban Outfitters

Nail polish: Esse and Nails Inc 3D Glitter

The above photos were taken behind the courthouse; while the below were taken at a fun little shop my sister and I happened upon in Cumberland, RI called Green Label Boutique.

Nails Of The Week: Pastel Drips

20120429-122451.jpg

Did these nails for the week! Started with ‘Licorice’ by Esse base (two coats) then used a bobby pin a la my blood drip nails tutorial to great drips in ‘Waterlily’ by Dior. Once that dried I created drips with ‘She’s Picture Perfect’ by Esse. And voila! Pastel drippy nails that almost remind me of ice cream!

Nails of The Week: Ombre

Quick little post of my nails for this week! Used a Forever 21 light mauve purple base and then Esse’s “Wicked” for the second layer.

It could be neater but I don’t mind a little mess.

Nails of the Week

This week it’s getting so much closer to Christmas! I decided to celebrate with a semi-festive nail, but not go too over the top.
I used a red from Forever21, and Sephora gold glitter.

Nails of The Week: Blood Drip

Last fall I’d seen an image of “bloody” nails floating around Tumblr and had attempted to try it out on my own. This did not work out well for me to just go from image to attempt, no tutorial involved (note the image below).

Thankfully, I found an actual tutorial a few weeks ago hinting to use a bobbie pin or toothpick to help draw the blood (d’oh). With the help of So, Hi’s Tutorial my 2011 attempt was MUCH more successful.

I started by cleaning my nails, then applying this Sally Hansen “sheer vanilla” for three coats, and letting it dry completely. Then, I applied a layer of this deep red from Forever 21 to the tips of my nails.

Next, the drip part. I poured the slightest, dime sized dollop of the Forever 21 red onto paper. I then took my bobbie pin and drew drops of blood, starting farther and dragging towards the tip strip. I also added a few teardrop shaped droplets to really make it look dripping.

Let dry and voila! Much better than my previous attempt and super eerie for this late October week.

And keeping with the theme, enjoy this blood dripping photo of me shot in August by Darkside Images. It’s pretty much my current icon for everything 🙂

The Anti-French Manicure

With my gold an glitter manicure fading, I decided to give a go at one of the top current nail trends; the half mood cuticles, the anti-French manicure as my friends noted it.

I started by removing the gold and glitter, cleaning my nails and applying a Revlon base coat.

Next, I decided to use a mauve, pale purple that’s super big this season for my nails. This color is from Forever 21, and the small bottle is just SO adorable!

After applying three coats and letting that properly dry, it was time to do the half moons! I got out my Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen and got to work. I had my friend who is staying with me help with the opposing hand so it wouldn’t get messed up and for a dude, he did pretty well.

Et Voila! My Anti-French manicure is complete! I love it and got so many compliments. Sadly, as a perfectionist I’m unhappy with the “cakey” and cracked look the nail art pen produced. I think I’ll have to be on the look out for a better brand of pen.

Laquered Up

In high school I was a cheerleader, and we practiced 11 months out of the year, so I was never allowed to wear nail polish. After graduating high school I’ve slowly gotten into the habit of weekly self manicures and experimenting with nail art. I’ve come across some note worthy blogs, images, and tips I’d like to share with you all!

First off, most recently I managed to paint my nails leopard, with out any help! IF you’ve ever tried to design your own nails, you understand what a great feat this was.

Through the past I’ve also been known within my friends for creating a really good ombre nail. Last winter I did this with almost every glitter and color combination I could find…

pink with blue glitter

Green with green glitter

Pink with teal/blue

Galaxy nails; still messy from being freshly done.

Ombre Green/blue

I use a range of brands including NYC, Sally Hansen, OPI for Sephora, and Wet n Wild.

You can find almost any tutorial on Youtube, as well as a few on FYPN. There’s a TON of blogs about nail art, polishes, and design out there but this one is by far my favorite. A close second is Laquerized.com .

Enjoy, and I just wanted to share some fun inspirations with you all!

*EDIT* I’m thinking of doing a Nails Of The Week post…opinions?
