Monthly Musings Vol. 4

It’s August! The summer is in full swing. I’m currently on vacation (though this post was obviously written over the course of July in it’s entirety) and I gotta say I’m super stoked to get in some beach reads and soak up ALL the sun I can for the week!

Whether you’re enjoying summer or stuck at work, here’s something to give you a little break: my favorite finds and reads from the internet this month!

  1. Part of my 2016 bucket list is to go on a trip alone. With my growing love of yoga and my forever love of the ocean I’m totally thinking this Yoga and Surf retreat might be just what I need.
  2. I can’t believe I’m only JUST hearing about REI’s United Outside summer series of events (to celebrate their first location in DC!). Campfire s’mores and a wine and photo tour? SIGN ME UP! Anyone else outdoorsy want to go!?
  3. Keeping on with this theme of adventure…these under $500 vacas are screaming my name for weekend getaways.
  4. to get politically topical…this is how to get white people to stop being racist (scientifically).
  5. Since I’m at the beach, why not enjoy these vintage beach photos! How glam was beach going back in the day, sans SnapChat and Selfies? I’m hoping my squad and I can be as glam as the one above.
  6. Now looking ahead and out of summery goodness into some prefall date nights, I really need a fire pit in my yard or on my porch. What about you? I legit can’t get over the copper metal one!

Currently Coveting: Sunglasses

After that beautiful weekend (which seems long gone, now with the snow) and my upcoming exciting trip to Mexico City, I’m craving some new sunglasses! I want something new, modern, trendy…so I’m ready to shop one of my favorite affordable web shops, Persun Mall! Click the links below to shop the styles!sunnies

What’s trending now is round frames; 70’s edgy vibing, especially with the shapes (love the triangles!) I’ve also been a long time fan of a subtle cat eye, so the black and burgundy pairs are perfect for glamming up mah face!

Hump Day Dupes

Back in October (has it really been that long!?) I introduced you all to a fun little side project of mine, UnderEmployed Fashionistas. I also shared with you one of my favorite weekly features, the Hump Day Dupes! Today, I’m sharing more of these as a cross post. I’d also like to say that if you’re interested in budget living, and/or music, we’re looking for more writers and contributors to help push the website into grander success! Shoot me an email at if you’re interested in joining!

On to the dupes…

lvWho doesn’t remember the iconic oversized checks of the Louis Vuitton runway, the coveted final collection of Marc Jacobs!? With gargantuan prints still being in style you can’t go wrong with this style steal. Romwe’s version is $24.99; compare that to the bank-breaking $2,500 price tag of the real deal.
fish bone backWith Fashion Weeks around the corner, our sartorial wheels are spinning as fashionistas everywhere look for the coolest, most unique inspirations. This jacket is a cult favorite; Christine Centenera of Harpers Bazaar Australia in a $1,995 Dion Lee jacket. What a pretty price, eh? For us budget inclined divas, Get The Look offers up this admitted dupe for $99. Still out of your price range? TARI DC (a local upscale thrift store, that SHIPS) has a version for $88!
mini mac vsThe Rebecca Minkoff Mini-Mac is one of the most covetable handbags of our generation. It’s been seen on bloggers, celebrities, and friends alike. But with a $200 price tag, even the occasional luck of finding one at TJ Maxx still puts it at $100 or more. Charlotte Russe is to the rescue though, with their very clear dupe at, wait for it….only $15! The leather, or lack there of, won’t be as buttery, but the aesthetic is there without breaking that new 2014 savings bank!
givenchy vsWhile us here on the Eastern Coast can’t even FATHOM the thought of sandals right now, these dupes are too good to wait until spring for. Compared to the Givenchy price tag of nearly $700, these Alloy pumps are higher and cheaper, by a long shot. At just under $30, these pumps are fabulous and fierce, and financially reasonable!
hermes beltThe Hermes monogram belt has been an iconic clean piece of the wealthy wardrobe for years. The real deal costs up to $600, even in the $300 range on Ebay. Why not take the thrifty approach and add a perfect dupe of an initial to an old (or new) belt for only $28? C. Wonder will supply the buckle, you do the rest!
burb sweatshirt
Starting off with another piece from one of the most coveted Fall/Winter 2013 collections. Burberry’s now iconic heart print is also available in sweatshirt form, with a price tag of…$1,295. For us thrifty fashionistas, Choies has a dupe for only $28.99! It may not be the silk blended v-neck, but it will surely still be warm and chic!

Iconemesis and a GIVEAWAY!

My iPhone is spoiled. It has more clothes [cases] than my cat, rides in a warm safe place everywhere, travels alongside me, even has it’s own sleeping spot on my bed; spoiled, yes. My inanimate iPhone is SPOiLED. I recently received this fun Fififawn case from Iconemesis and was immediately smitten. It’s neutral colored, so it goes with many outfits. It showcases a fashionable animal with oversize sunglasses and a cute outfit, just as I am apt to wear. I immediately knew that when I shot the phone case I needed to wear something cute to coincide with it!
This jacket, which I’ve had for years and unfortunately doesn’t get much wear, was perfect. Gold brocade on pink? Feminine and flirty glam.
The case itself is wonderful; a hard shell plastic which protects the phone but keeps it sleek for easy pocketing. Iconemesis offers many many designs, and offers great customer service and quick deliveries.

Now, in the spirit of it being my Birthday Month and the month of gifts and giving I’m keeping the weekly giveaways going! Iconemesis and I are teaming up to offer ONE lucky reader a free iPhone case of their choosing, just like my fifififawn case! There’s even some BRAND NEW designs which are oh so festive and adorable!

Wednesday Wishlist: Currently Coveting For Novemburrr

Hello lovely followers! I’ve been doing a lot of online shopping/browsing lately, which has created a lot of “want” within me, so I figured I’d share with you all the styles I’m currently coveting to update my closet for the impending colder temps and family holidays!

1. Flamingo Print Blouse because I LOVE flamingos, duh. And the sheer fabric poses the potential for my own flamingo (tattoo) to make a subtle appearance.

2.  Leatherette pants are edgy, practical, sexy, and warm…perfect for versatility!

3. Nicole Black Gold booties would go famously with those jeans, or any holiday look for some pizazz on the toes!

4. This Givenchy Inspired Sweater is too cool-slash-edgy to pass up!

5. I’m so excited for the window pane print to hit full swing come spring, but also LOVE that it’s popping up for the current season!

6. This Celine inspired fur trim bag is TO DIE FOR, and in an on-trend cobalt blue? BE MINE ALREADY.

7. 7 For All Mankind Jeans; the baroque print is festive and on-trend for a classy date night or holiday dinner.

What are YOU currently coveting for this month!?

Hump Day Dupes

Remember when I asked you followers if you wanted to write for a new budget-lifestyle website? Some of you responded and are now on my team, but for those who don’t know, there’s a new website you NEED to check out.
I started UnderEmployed Fashionistas with my pal Alisse, hoping to bring fashion, beauty, and advice to all the “underemployed” ladies out there. One of the things I have been in charge of, alongside my Editor-In-Chief duties, has been putting together a weekly list of designer knock offs I’ve started calling Hump Day Dupes. The series is in it’s third week currently, but I figured I’d cross post to here so all you lovely folks can enjoy the cheapest and chicest in non-designer-but-looks-like-designer styles.
kenzoKenzo has recently been on the up and up of the fashion blogger wardrobe scene. But these runway designer duds are not even fathomably affordable for us savvy savers! SheInside, one of the top “dupes” websites (as you may have noticed in previous posts) knocks off the ready-to-wear staple, which costs almost $650, for only $31.48. Score the dupe HERE and get ready to impress, as only the keenest eye will be able to tell the difference between these duds!
balenciage bootsA fashion staple, at least in the bloggosphere of fashion forward ladies, are the Balenciaga Ceinture High Derby, or more commonly: cut out boots. A little bit of edge; or, well, a lot of edge, as well as a lot of fun and comfort due to no heel. At nearly $1,300 though, these shoes are only for the elite and/or gifted. Jeffrey Campbell immediately noticed a need for a cheaper version and created their Coltrane Boots for $1000 less. But Alas, some of us with a serious budget still can’t afford almost $300 for even the most covetable of styles. So, I introduce you to the Qupid Valiant; coming in at $40 these are what we call affordable! Buy the cheap dupes here on Amazon and embrace your rocker cool side!dgChannel your inner Carrie Bradshaw with this current trend! Dolce and Gabbana rolled this beautiful full tulle midi skirt down the runway recently, but who has the $750 to shell out for the five layers? Not us underemployed fashionistas, that’s for sure! After scouring the internet for a solid hour, trying to find the best quality, for the best price, with the closest looks to the original, I’ve found it. $10 on EBay gets you this delectable dupe that is the full 5 layers of gorgeous, dreamy tulle.
rock studNo Fashion blog could be complete without any notion towards the newly iconic Valentino Rock Stud Pump. While the dupe isn’t the pyramid studded patent leather perfect replica, GoJane still kills it with this soft velvetine version of the closet staple. For ornly $34.50 you too can look like you’re rocking the $1,000 pump! Get the knock-offs here, or oggle the OG’s vsWhile the Hermes Rivet stud cuff is an edgy staple among bloggers and fashionstas alike, the beauty costs anywhere from $1000 to $2000. Now, for those of you who’s rent isn’t even half that, there’s still an option. I show you, the SheInside rivet cuff. Available in almost as many colors as it’s original Hermes, this statement piece will only cost you $8.16, available here. Now THAT is an affordable deal!

burb vsOne of the biggest hits for fall, in my opinion, was Burberry’s heart print blouse, available for both men and women. But really, who has the money to shell out $795 for this name brand? NOT US. Lucky for you ladies, SheInside has a chiffon version of the top for a mere $21.97, available here. Can we say “MUS HAVE”?!

prada vs
While Prada brand oversized baroque sunglasses cost $290, why not be budget-savvy and sun ray blocking with these $14 look-a-likes!? Get the 80sPurple version HERE! While they may be a cheaper plastic and not have a designer logo, most people of the general public can hardly tell the difference (I know; I’ve been told “love your Prada’s” numerous times and I just smile slyly to myself knowing they think I’m rich, not a broke bitch).
pearlsInspired by Rihanna and Lady GaGa? While our favorite lady singer’s wear $7,500 vintage Chanel pearl framed sunnies, we budget fashionistas don’t have that luxury. NastyGal, thankfully, comes to our rescue with their dupes for only $37. Now, this may not seem fathomably affordable,, there are $10 options available on Etsy, but none of them are up to par with the knock-off envy inducing aesthetic that these babies carry. And if the vintage Chanel’s are any indication, these shades will be in style for many years to come, so why not the mini-splurge for the best look!?
jcrew henWhile this $95 J.Crew hen sweater isn’t absurdly priced, we still can’t recent saving and duping. SheInside offers an 0h-so-similar version for only $33! Cozy, kitschy, and cute!
stellaaaIt’s sweater weather season alright! Cozy, cashmere (or not) and fun prints for added warmth and chic-ness are everywhere. Stella McCartney has this beaut on-trend plaid mohair sweater for $1,200, and we all know mohair is made of the clouds of Heaven and the pillows of Gods. Lucky for us budget-savvy folk, Choies created this knock-off made of a light weight knit and darker colors (but still same design and scheme) for merely $67. I actually kind of perefer the cut of the Choies one as well, as it’s more youthful and fun!
plvThis may be the best dupe of the week, aesthetically speaking. You can hardly spot the difference between these two pumps, unless you were staring at the price tags. The covetable metal toed Pour La Victoire pumps cost a pretty penny at $252, where as these Target knock offs are a just $29.99 (not including all the other things you walk out of Target with because that’s just what happens there).

Punk Vs Femme Summer Concert Styles!

Hi guys, sorry I haven’t been posting much these days; I’ve been working on myself and trying to fine tune where I’m going in life, and well, I won’t bore you with the details. Basically, I’m sick of always moving, always changing my title, et cetera, and I’m ready to just settle down in a consistent way of life and a home.
Anyway, It’s SUMMMER!! One of my favorite things about summer is the concerts; whether it’s a full on festival (even though Coachella and Bonnaroo have passed, there’s still Warped Tour and Lollapalooza), a small venued show, or a night time at an amphitheater. I know my summer is already starting off right and I can’t wait for all the live music, friends, and summer soaking! To get myself pumped I’ve created a few boards of dreamy looks, adhering to both my punk and feminine sides to each.

Punk Vs Girly Summer Festival Style

I’m excited to live in Maxi dresses and denim cut offs and the perfect hats and sunnies! Sneaking in wine or a flask to a lawn seated concert….Yea, I’m stoked.
What do you think of these looks? Are you going to any summer concerts or shows this season?
