A bit of color on a Gray day

It’s been dull and gray for a few days now, here, and I’ve been going a little crazy! So this morning I decided to put all the color I wish was outside onto me.

Life is Too Short to Care What Others Think

Getting in on my spring time brights and breaking out some sneakers. These are one of my favorite pair of kicks, but living in NYC I rarely find wear for them, so I’m sure they’re happy I’m in MA for a few weeks. Sure, shoes can have feelings too, right?

Thrifted jacket from Saver’s

Forever 21 dress

Shirt C/o WordBoner (buy it HERE)

Charming Charlie’s bag

Converse sneakers

bracelets from Bloomingdale’s, Target

Forever 21 sunglasses

Also, this is one of my favorite tee shirts ever, for obvious reasons. Crass and bold, and it always gets people to stare at my chest, for better reasons than is more common!

Dad’s Sweater

Ever since I was about 4 years old I’ve pondered the letters and design of this sweater. I may never know, but it will always be a nostalgic piece for me. I wore this out on a very unsuccessful trip to the local thrift store. If you follow me on my twitter you may have noticed that I found a gorgeous sheer maxi. Brought it to the counter, it was rang up, bagged, everything. Smile on my face. Then, the credit card machine was down. WOMP WOMP WOMP.

Also I literally CANNOT STOP wearing this Covergirl lipstick of my mom’s. It goes with my hair and is just dark enough to give me the right amount of edge without being overpowering.

Rafaello and Co. Jewelry

Friday evening I brought some of my fellow NYC Fashion Bloggers to the lovely showroom of Rafaello and Co Jewelry.  In this international jewelers they do custom pieces such as necklaces, watches, et cetera for high end clientele including many famous rappers.

LOVE the cat ring (you know, for $30,000 or so) and that fuschia watch? $60,000. Oh, I cannot wait until the days when I can afford something nice for myself!

For this event I came in a Diane Von Furstenberg dress, Wild Pair heels, Forever 21 belt, and an H&M jacket. Fancy, yet fun, and it flowed perfectly into my Friday night festivities.

Busy Busy!

Hello followers and readers!

I’ve been a busy lady as of late, with sooo many things in the works for this site and my personal life (And dramatics and tragedies as well, sadly). I recently attended an event for Mintbox, which I’ll be sharing more with you soon, but here are a few candid shots from the event, which also included sponsor’s from Arrojo Salon and NARS beauty products!

Pictures via the NY Fashion Bloggers Meetup

I personally didn’t take many pictures, or even quality outfit pictures due to being a good networker and mingler. And, ofcourse, NYC has been morbidly hot so I had sweated off all my make up.

Again, you’ll be hearing more about my Mintbox. In other news, I still take iPhone photos of my daily outfits and share on my Tumblr, here are a few from this week!

DIY Slouchy Clutch

I’ve been feeling creative lately and been dying to create something using this greyscale “fuck” fabric my roommate had lying around. With the laptop clutch craze going around, I decided that’s what I needed.

Next, was the hunt for the perfect sized, shade, and priced zipper. I ended up at B&Q Trimmings on 38th street, which was sooo much cheaper in everything than M&J and also much more helpful! Safe to say I’ll be going back for all my trimmings and non-fabric needs.

Now, for the pictures: I started by cutting the fabric, sewing the bottom and parts of the sides, then sewing the zipper on.

Maven got in the way a little. It came out alright; I forgot I hadn’t sewn anything since I was 18 but it was great to get back on a machine. Then, I modeled it in what I wore for the day!

As you can see I have some BRIGHT new hair, done by my good friend and soon to be recent beauty school graduate, Sarah. She’s amazing and had done my hair before when I had the red with blonde ! 😀

Enjoy, and hopefully there will be more DIY’s to come.

BlackAndYellow (and white)

It’s sunny, for the first time in DAYS. It’s Spring.

I recently reclaimed my yellow pants from my parents’ home last weekend and have been itching to wear them, and yesterday just felt like the right day at last. With the sun shining, sunglasses on, and a comfortable, relaxed “it’s finally Thursday” air it was the perfect ensemble.

Abbey Dawn Tee Shirts

Growing up I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with Abbey Dawn designer Avril Lavigne. When she first broke out I loved her fearless tomboy/rocker style. I was insanely jealous of her rocker Sum 42 Boyfriend, then husband, now ex all-of-the-above. Avril was never on the top end of the fashion/gossip columns, yet she’s maintained a love for the industry. When her line, Abbey Dawn, released, I was skeptical. But, against the odds, her line has been going strong, and even expanded into men’s tees.

I was recently asked to model some of their tee shirts, which aren’t half bad. They’re the usual brights of the season, with graphic prints and designs, similar to what I was most commonly seen wearing back in my high school days.  Many of the shirts bear designs common to the current “rocker” or “scene” trends; mustaches, thick rims, diamonds, etc.

Also wearing Armani Exchange Jeans.

Here are a couple more tee’s from the set shot by Manny Hui.

Be sure to check out the site AbbeyDawn.com if you’re into rocker tees and accessories!

Neon Leopard

I had a dream last night about wearing these neon leopard print tights I’ve had in my closet for awhile now, but don’t wear too often. So, upon waking up I decided today was the day. Even though there was nothing special about today whatsoever, just a generic school day, but I think I looked pretty kick-a$$ 🙂

BoldiLocks

(L to R) Audrey Kitching, Raquel Reed, Jeffree Star, Lady GaGa

Colored hair has made its rise from the streets to the runways of the hottest fashion designers. Ten years ago a person with green hair was heavily frowned upon and probably the one getting tattooed and sharing heroine needles, or so would be presumed.

Three years ago, Juicy Couture featured old ladies donning pink, purple, blue, and yellow hair for their spring ad for their signature fragrance, alongside a heavily tattooed (and SUPER hot, might I add) male model. Last spring, TeenVogue showcased girls with hot pink and teal streaks in their hair. Teenage “role models” and “scene superstars” Raquel Reed and Audrey Kitching are well known for their Teal and Pink hair, respectively and even have helped these girls land modeling jobs with more alternative couture companies. Even Lady Gaga was seen with bright yellow hair in her Telephone video.

This season, bold locks are on more high fashion runways and models than ever before, and I can tell this trend isn’t slowing downsoon!

Now, why should you try out this trend? #1, you’re young. you’re allowed to experiment and have fun. Also, its just about summer. If you’re not working in an office or high end place where you need to be 100% presentable then try it out! You don’t have to go and bleach and dye, but there are semi permanent and wash out alternatives as well!

Credit to Greg Easton Photography

I personally dyed my hair about 4 different crazy colors within the past year, as well as receiving tons of advice from how to get that perfect color permanently or to wash out.
If you want to go for a permanent, my trusting hair Guru friend Celsa suggests a specialist. They will know where to get that perfect dye and how long to leave it on for, as well as how to guide you into the proper care for your newly colored tresses. Celsa also says that Pravana Chroma Silk is the best and most trusted among professionals and comes in a large array of favorable shades and colors. Sadly, this lust worthy dye is only purchase able by pros. For more about this and other permanent dyes, check out Celsa’s blog at www.projectjayneriot.tumblr.com

Now, semi permanent is more my forte. If you have dark hair, be sure to bleach it first. Trust me on this one, bleach is your friend. You’ll need developer, the bleach powder, and a non metal bowl and mixing spoon. Supposedly you’re not supposed to apply it to your scalp, but I’ve never suffered from it. After you’ve bleached your hair to a pale blonde or white if you’re lucky with healthy hair, you’re ready to add color! I prefer to use Manic Panic or Raw, found at Hot Topic or Sally’s Beauty supply. Teal is really pretty, as is purple. Be careful with red, as it fades quickly to a pink so you should stock up if you want to keep it radiantly red.

if you’re not into bleaching and ruining your hair, there are still alternatives.

Sally’s Beauty supply, as well as Wal Mart I hear, has hair mascara. They are wands of color to apply to your hair for a streak affect. Much better looking than gross spray in hair color we all used to use for Halloween and spirit day!

For those of you who fear ruining and adding products to your hair, Sally’s and Hot Topic both carry colored clip in extensions. I’ve used them, but you have to make sure they are hidden and are clipped in securely.
