I’m in My Right Place

I’m actually good
Can’t help it if we’re tilted

A final look from my trip to South Africa…These photos were shot the last day of our stay at the Aquila Game Reserve and Park. I wanted to take advantage that the horses were in their enclosure, though they clearly had very little interest in posing for pictures with this camera-happy lady. Oh well. I wore this safari-perfect dress I found at DC’s number one consignment shop, Current Boutique (and number one isn’t a personal superlative; they’ve won every local award for the position!) and found the hat at its competitor, Buffalo Exchange. A match made in heaven, found in the States but perfect for the desert of Africa. #ThriftedWin

Also, can we talk about this song?? Thanks to Songza’s “Obsessively New 2015” playlist I have become obsessed with Christine and The Queens. Her smooth voice swapping between French and English mixed with her sweet dance moves has me on a musical bender. Not to mention this Kate Mara look a like has menswear inspired style down pat complete with cropped trousers and loafers to covet. Now if only she would play a show this side of the Atlantic I’d be the happiest gal.

Can’t You Be Happy With Me

Everyday do you notice that we’re never free
Oh, why can’t you be happy with me
Everyday we are running around trapped in our seat

Last weekend I hosted my first ever mini-dinner party. We started it with a prescheduled photoshoot, and by this look everyone had had some wine and was getting involved and having fun. Nothing like some truly genuine smiles in a fabulous outfit surrounded by friends to make for some great pictures! After these shots we all went inside for some delicious food and drinks made by the beau and I. Three cheers for growing up, amiright!?

We would just rise above this cycle that we’re bound to

Made a Career of Composure

all of the things you’ve accomplished

I’ve been doing the 9-5 grind for a bit now, and I must say I’m digging it. My first weekends-not-required job since doing corporate fashion in NYC and I love it even more than I did then. Maybe because I have someone to truly relish and take advantages of weekends with, or maybe it’s that I’ve matured to have a sartorial taste for classier dressing (at least most days of the week). I think my multitude of magazine subscriptions aides in the workplace style inspo, but I’m still my frugal and funky self. When I saw this two piece vintage suit at Buffalo Exchange I thought it was amazing. With suit sets coming back in style (with a definitive modern flair) I needed to try it on and once it was a perfect fit I knew it was fate. Ten buckaroos later I sheepishly/excitedly sped to happy hour with Z where I nervously awaited his reaction to my spur of the moment splurge. He approved, acknowledging “I know you’ll make it look good”. And here we are today; I think I nailed the modern business style, what do you think!?

Staying in my Play Pretend Where the Fun ain’t got no End

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
It’s finally spring! Time to say hello to bare skin (and welcome back, tattoos!) Crop tops, short skirt, sunglasses….and let’s not forget the current “it” bucket bag! I’m so so in love with this bag, care of Moda Luxe. Buttery vegan leather in a perfectly bold hue, and it can be dressed up or down; hello versatility! I paired it here with a fun vibed outfit; cheeky vacation and flamingo printed skort I got at the Buffalo Exchange 40th anniversary party, along with the crop top. Topped it off with some pink accessories, and I’m ready for a sunny day!

Safety pin necklace and midi rings from Nissa Jewelry

This beautiful, gorgeous handbag is the product of internet friendships turned IRL. Linell Ellis, local handbag designer, and I started talking on twitter before I realized she was local and we decided to meet for real. After showing me her latest handbag collection I was in love; everything is made from fine quality leather and metal, the “leopard” is dyed calf hair, and her logo is hand stamped with gold foil. Even just touching one of her masterpieces you can tell the care and thought that went into the design and product. Being able to take home one of these babies was a dream, even just for the weekend! As I eluded on InstaGram, picking which one was the hardest, especially with so many stunning clutches and practical cross body bags.

Buffalo Exchange Celebrates 40 years!

buff 5As an UnderEmployed Fashionista one might say I’m a savvy thrifting shopper. One of my favorite spots is Buffalo Exchange, particularly the one in Georgetown. So when the manager told me about their 40th anniversary party and sale I knew I HAD to be there! I mean, I try to get there on a weekly basis (I’m waiting for someone with size 6.5 feet to just purge their shoe closet), but this was going to be bigger and better.

Saturday morning came and an excited me and not-as-enthralled Z drove into Georgetown ready to see an airstream and some killer vintage pieces. While the bustling city proved to be too busy for a silver bus, the event carried on inside with face painting, amazing deals, free swag, and some seriously buzzing shoppers and associates. Due to it being their anniversary, they brought in some classic Arizona and vintage pieces from boots and satchels to shimmery sequined dresses and accessories. I found some amazing pieces (as always), but unfortunately no shoes (as always), but even the man got some great things.

I took home some limited edition reusable bags, tee shirts, stickers, pens, pins, and temporary tattoos, as well as a copy of their most recent lookbook (LOVE the boho southern inspirations for summer). Donations at the event went towards Yellowstone National Park, and with my BF’s love of all things buffalo, it’s safe to say he’s pleased with the logo’d swag. All this to celebrate 40 amazing years of fabulous thrifting? HELL YES! While most of the southern tour dates are finished, the tour itself isn’t quite done. Be sure to check here to see if the silver airstream party is coming to you soon! And follow the adventures on the interwebs with #Bufex74 !

I Never Ever Saw the Northern Lights

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
A fun sporty look I actually wore to the Super Bowl party I went to! My wonderful photographer Brian and I played around with the natural lighting and I couldn’t be happier with the results! It reminds me of a little bit of WildFox vibes meets the street style of LA; what do YOU think!?
As for the clothes; This look is on the edgier style of my personal style spectrum. This sweatshirt (can you believe it’s only $15.99!?) is also kinda of WildFox inspired, and I love the fun quote. It’s subtle crop has me craving another fun belly ring, similar to the ones on FreshTrends, which are also so cheap and chic! And who can forget these shoes!? Adidas x Jeremy Scott inspired that I scored from my local Buffalo Exchange…YES.

Ginger Mint Julep

There’s been this mural by my apartment for ages, and I’ve always liked it for it’s visionary; picture ginger and mint together…
The restaurant closed a few months ago, and I’ve been dying to get my butt over to shoot in front of this before they repaint it, but had to find the perfect look and weather, and I think I nailed it!
Also, how do y’all like my new hair!? I’ve realized, through my TimeHop app, that every February brings major hair changes. 2009 I went from blonde and pink to bold red, 2011 I went bolder red, last year I opted for dark locks and this year? Short and chic…VA VA VOOM

Wild Cat

IMG_5180IMG_5168Bubbles and Champagne were their names, they were a year older than me with a faint orange tabby the vets called “pink”. My babysitters, my headrests, my first taste of responsibility. Their 20 years of life in mine created quite the cat lady in me. Now, at nearly 24, I have my Maven: the omnipresent, unconditional, furry love of my life.

If my recent InstaGrams, or the entire tag/page on my Tumblr is any note, I’m clearly a cat lady, through and through. Don’t get me wrong, I love my pups! Especially bullies, whether it be pitties or frenchies; those wide smiles get me every time. But alas, nothing compares to the independence of a feline companion.
Now, getting back to my first love of Fashion, I’ve been loving the influx of feline-laden apparel! Charlotte Olympia velvet wedges were a glorious dream of mine, so when I found these killer dupes at Buffalo Exchange for $17 I knew it was my fate, even more when they were my perfect size (a rarity). I scooped those up faster than a cat attacking a pile of catnip! That specific cat-coma weekend I also ordered a black cat iPhone case off Amazon, and a cat skirt from Persun Mall. yea, I’m slightly obsessed, oh well, at least I look chic! IMG_5170 IMG_5174 IMG_5177 IMG_5182

Also wearing Leopard mini dress (with pockets!!) from TARI and a cardigan from Limited Too.

Lookit my little fattttie <33
What do you think of the feline trend invading fashion? Do you, or would you, wear cat-themed clothes and shoes!?
