Oh, Baby, Every Morning There are Mountains To Climb

When we were young, we used to live so close to it
And we were scared and we were beautiful
And when I peered over the edge and seen death, if we are always the same

Before I delve into all the photos from my African safari and the amazing wildlife and scenery I saw during my stay at the Aquila Game Reserve I’m going to share with you one outfit post. After reading up on proper safari attire, Z and I opted for neutral earthy tones to wear to best blend in with the surroundings of the Karoo. The layers provided us with the perfect coverage for the 4 hour drive, including a stop for some bubbling champagne and enjoying the views overlooking a clearing of zebras and rhinos. Can we say amazing once in a lifetime experience #takemeback !?

Let me know what you think of our looks, and be sure you’re following me to see more of my trip to South Africa!

Neon Cool

A perfect suburban summer casual cool look. Holy hell that’s a lot of adjectives, but it gets the point across. Half the time I feel too old to be rockin’ these “hipster” coined ensembles, but it suburbia, barely employed, I think it’s okay. And, I’m only 22, just barely out of my teens, or so I keep telling myself. There’s no rush to grow up just yet, even if there’s plenty of pressure.

Life is Too Short to Care What Others Think

Getting in on my spring time brights and breaking out some sneakers. These are one of my favorite pair of kicks, but living in NYC I rarely find wear for them, so I’m sure they’re happy I’m in MA for a few weeks. Sure, shoes can have feelings too, right?

Also, this is one of my favorite tee shirts ever, for obvious reasons. Crass and bold, and it always gets people to stare at my chest, for better reasons than is more common!

That….WARM? February air

Yesterday was a rare, stunningly beautiful February day. It hit up to 66 degrees and was just absolutely gorgeous; clear blue skies, plenty of sunshine, and a slight breeze. I prodded my roommate until she woke up to go to the park with me, and borrowed an adorable dress from her for the day. We had plenty of fun with our little pooch and all the other ones out enjoying the day.

After our lovely romp in the park we prepared for our pre-planned evening. I decided to stick with the dress, but threw on some tights and my favorite Aldo wedges and H&M leather jacket. We stopped by for drinks at The Bowery Hotel, which has a lovely, comfortable atmosphere. Next stop, Scarpetta, a delicious italian eatery on 14th street and 9th avenue. There was a gorgeous skylight (rare from the first floor of any building in NYC) and my entire table sampled both red and white wine before the bread and appetizers.

Scarpetta is most famous for their basic spaghetti, which I tried. It’s basic, yes; tomatoes, basil and pasta, but oh my god is it delicious! As was everything I tried. For my entree I ordered Red Beet and Ricotta tortellini with pistachios and poppy seeds. I must say I was skeptical, but once it was in front of me it was beyond delicious.

Dessert was fantastic too, as we got a three dishes so we could all share. Sadly, I was much too full already to enjoy these.

Concert Style part Deux

Bamboozle was this past weekend, and the style was insane. Like I predicated, open back and cut up shirts were a month the most popular styles. As I worked the Rainy Day Clothing tent I even cut up some tees for customers! Due to the immense heat, many girls were in swimsuit tops and their bra’s. I myself even wore one the second day. My predictions were right again, though, and somebody untied mine (thankfully I caught it in time and they were nice enough to tie it back up). Denim shorts and other short shorts were there, and strangely I saw some girls in leggings and tights…If you want to go that route, go for it, but I personally would have died from the heat.

Converse’s were by far the number one shoe choice, as well as bare feet from missing or broken sandals.

This is a pretty pointless post, just to say how right I was, but I also wanted to share some pictures, so here you go!

Boyfriend jeans have been making a steady climb to the fashion hierarchy of trends. Many people though, it has been brought to my attention, have difficulty finding the right pair and knowing how to wear them.

First off, finding a pair. I got my first pair actually from a boyfriend! My high school best friend and short term boyfriend lent me a pair of his jeans after I saw Rihanna’s Pon De Replay video. I had a fantastic style idea for them, which worked well, and I ended up keeping the jeans and shamefully still have them to this day. Mine were American Eagle; durable, comfortable, thick. I still view them as the perfect pair. If you prefer to shop in the actual female department and get a more feminine look, I suggest starting out with Levi’s or Gap. Although I personally have difficulty finding a good fit for me at Gap, they pride themselves on quality and extreme comfort, as well as an array of “styles” and fits. If you’re looking for something high end with a brand name label, 7 for all Mankind and Diesel make some amazing distressed boyfriend jeans. These run up to about $200 or can be as low as $60 if you can find a sweet deal.

If you’re looking for cheaper, both H&M and Forever 21 have their own boyfriend jeans. Forever 21’s has only two styles. One a dark wash for $22.80, the other a lighter wash with pyramid studs for $29.80. According to my dear friend Lauren, have a strange fit for her. You have to have the right body and type for their jeans. H&M however, are my favorite. Cheap, chic, and totally durable and more fit-friendly than Forever 21. They come in a wider array of washes and shades, but slightly less embellished.

Now, how to wear them. I see so many people trying to rock this trend, but they seem to do it wrong. My personal opinion is that you need to wear boyfriend jeans in a feminine, yet “effortless cool” way. If you want to wear them with sneakers, make sure they are low top and low key. Keds, Converse low tops, and some vans tend to look best. High top shoes just look funky with these jeans, a bit too butch of a look, in my opinion. Flats look okayyy with this trend, but do something fun, like a peep toe! If you want to wear heels, I think a simple stiletto or pump works best. While looking for a top is where you can add the frills and girly fun! Think a sequin tank and ruffled or solid pastel cardigan. Since the jeans are baggy, try not to do a loose shirt or you run the risk of looking over layered and under caring.
