DIY: Lettered Beanie

_MG_6882_post

After seeing lettered beanies everywhere from the punk tween bloggers to the edgier sides of fashion week, I knew they were a cold-weather style hit. Perusing online led to finding that these beanies, with any given saying from “vogue” to “boss”, even the kitschy “meow”, ranged in price from $24 all the way up to $50. I thought to myself, “for a beanie!?” Then I thought I could make that, for cheaper. Yea, it’s not breaking the bank, but I can’t resist getting a tad hands on with a DIY!

I bought a beanie and iron-on letters off of Amazon for less than $5. I don’t have an iron, but found I could use a hair straightener in the same way (ghetto-fab-rigged). You will also need a basic cotton tee shirt, even if using a real iron. hair beanie 120131129-185856.jpg

Cut your letters out and arrange them on your beanie as you’d like them to look. Be sure not to cut your cat’s tale no matter how in the way he puts it. Put your tee shirt around the inside and top of the beanie and iron each letter about 1 minute, let cool and peel off. Do this for each letter, then let cool before wearing.

Could this BE any easier!? It’s chic, quick, and budget saving. _MG_6866_post _MG_6870_post _MG_6885_postWhat do you think of this DIY? Would you make your own lettered beanie!? What would yours say!?

Self Date Sunday: Jamberry Nail Wraps

Jamberry nail wraps in black and white graphic prints #beautyblogger

Y’all know I’m a sucker for a graphic mani. When I was approached to try out Jamberry’s stylish nail wraps I jumped at the opportunity. Armed with samples I played around with them with family and friends, and really fell in love with them. Jamberry is such an easy way to add a pop of nail art to your week with minimal effort!

Jamberry nail kit

While some people choose to get a full set of all one print, I’m a fan of spontaneity. Armed with a few multi packs I picked out some favorites, got some clean and fresh nails prepped (cleaned, buffed, etc), and began the process. It’s suggested that you warm the nail strip with a hair dryer, though I’ve found it works fine without, though sticks better with. Up2U! I adhered my black and white styles to my chosen fingers, holding it into place for 90 seconds to make sure it sticks, then clipping off the excess around the end of your nail. Continue on as many fingers as you like; I chose two per hand, and painted the rest black, keeping with the theme.

Voila. Less than two minutes (or 20 if you do a full set) to gorgeous graphic nails without a salon or painstaking hours of attempting to draw designs.

Self Date Sunday : Triangle Mani

Blue hued fall nails with Essie and Sally Hansen

I have been on the hunt for the perfect navy hued nail polish for months, nay years. So many I found were too blue, too gray, too pale… But alas, the God’s at Essie heard my telepathic plight and recently released just for me (or so I tell myself) “After School Boy Blazer”. Giddy ol’ me scooped that ish up SO FAST. But now, how to wear it? I could pull it off by itself but I wanted to go a bit further. I’m not one to be content with bare boned basics. I decided to play off the Navy as a New Neutral with some trending baby blue (Sally Hansen’s “Barracuda”). Together, a match made in a blue heaven.DIY Traingle detailed nails for fall

I started with the all over navy nails. Using cut up scotch tape I created diamonds to paint the Barracuda in. Be sure the base coat is 100% dry before putting the tape on or it will pull off. Next up, slather on some of your top color. I love that the scotch tape allows me to be a little messy, because let’s be real nobody is good at painting with their non-dominant hand.

Next: let them dry. Or, do as I do and take the dog to the park *thinking* your nails are dry and then come home and start all over again. Your call. Then, take pictures and share them with the internet.

Now take some vino or mimosa and indulge yourself in a little #selfdatesunday. Enjoy!

I Never Ever Saw the Northern Lights

A fun sporty look I actually wore to the Super Bowl party I went to! My wonderful photographer Brian and I played around with the natural lighting and I couldn’t be happier with the results! It reminds me of a little bit of WildFox vibes meets the street style of LA; what do YOU think!?
As for the clothes; This look is on the edgier style of my personal style spectrum. This sweatshirt (can you believe it’s only $15.99!?) is also kinda of WildFox inspired, and I love the fun quote. It’s subtle crop has me craving another fun belly ring, similar to the ones on FreshTrends, which are also so cheap and chic! And who can forget these shoes!? Adidas x Jeremy Scott inspired that I scored from my local Buffalo Exchange…YES.

Ginger Mint Julep

There’s been this mural by my apartment for ages, and I’ve always liked it for it’s visionary; picture ginger and mint together…
The restaurant closed a few months ago, and I’ve been dying to get my butt over to shoot in front of this before they repaint it, but had to find the perfect look and weather, and I think I nailed it!
Also, how do y’all like my new hair!? I’ve realized, through my TimeHop app, that every February brings major hair changes. 2009 I went from blonde and pink to bold red, 2011 I went bolder red, last year I opted for dark locks and this year? Short and chic…VA VA VOOM

Just Create and Hold On Tight to The Light Inside

This will only get harder
When we’re not afraid of fighting with honor
It’s our time to feel alive

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I’d been feeling like I was losing my edge; this conservative city taking too much hold of me. So I threw on a more edgy outfit and called it a day. I love this sweater dress, mostly because it’s cozy cashmere, but also that it’s in the on-trend “orchid” that’s been announced as the color of the year! I paired it with an edgy beanie and fringe, leather and studs. I hate to feel as if I’m losing myself, so looks like this help keep me grounded in my personal style.
What do YOU do when you feel yourself drifting away from what you consider your unique qualities?
I throw on some good ol’ early ought pop-punk and read NylonMag to get back to my roots.

Feathers, Yarn, and Branches

20130627-155141.jpgCOMPLETELY delayed, but a few weeks ago I was invited to the inaugural DIY Workshop for Topaz and Arrow here in DC as their InstaGram Giveaway winner! I was so excited to have WON something, and to go to my first outing on my own in DC!
So the workshop was called “Feathers, Yarn, and Branches”, hosted by the lovely ladies of BeCoolMom, DeNada Designs, and PandaHead. I walked in post-brunch (so already a few mimosas in, not going to lie) and was warmly greeted to fresh cocktails, fresh sushi, snacks, tea, summer sun, and friendly faces. The space was gorgeously, and effectively decorated with the materials we were using, finished products, and a slideshow of inspiration thrown up on the exposed brick walls. I took an open seat and watched as the instructions began.
20130627-155212.jpg20130627-155228.jpg20130627-155248.jpg20130627-155307.jpg
Morgan and Virginia spoke about inspiration, prep, where to buy products, and even how to paint the branches and do different loops for covering your branch in yarn. Me being semi lazy and boozed up, went with what I found to work for me. I chose my favorite colors, teal and black, and painted feathers. I took white yarn and sporatically wound it around my branch and then tied the feathers to it, making a staggering hanging sequence.20130627-155335.jpg20130627-155353.jpg20130627-155412.jpg20130627-155446.jpg20130627-155504.jpg20130627-155520.jpg
I originally planned to take my feather hanger home and hang it above my bed, but with three cats I figured it wouldn’t last. Also, the boyfriend liked it, so we hung it up at his place. Voila.

Anyway, the event was great; it was amazing to be able to connect with and create with other women my own age with such similar interests. It was well organized, and put on, and the cocktails and sushi additions were the perfect perks!
That being said, I will definitely be going to another Topaz And Arrow workshop. Sadly, the July even is during one of my weeklong beach stays, so I will have to wait until August for my next DIY festivity, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go! I definitely recommend all you area crafters to head on over to their next event, on Sunday, July 28th, entitled “Summer Bohemian”. Buy your tickets HERE!
Also, check out the video from the Feathers, Yarn and Branches event below!

Thanks, Topaz and Arrow for such a great event!!! ❤

I’m Just A Bad Girl, That’s Why We Get Along

Won’t make excuses for anything I’m doing wrong
I’ll pull the trigger in a flash
Watch out honey, step backIMG_0424It’s been grey in New England for over a week straight; what even is the sun anymore? I’ve been trying to beat the blues (why don’t we call them greys again?) by being all around productive, but that means shooting in my yellow tinge apartment or in the freezing cold. Today I went a little different and utilized my bathtub because, why not? In addition to lacking Vitamin D, it appears I’m slacking on my iron supplements, aka: don’t mind my hideous bruises that I don’t even have the slightest clue of where they came from.

Todays song of the day puts me in a fun, Gatsby-mood, though the lyrics add the scandal and power, and it’s sucha a great track. How’s everyone liking the tunage per post!? What’s your thoughts on today’s?

Sweet Floursecent Enemies

I feel like this is one of the boldest outfits I’ve done before; toying with loose layers and variant shades. I’m still frightful of pattern mixing (it makes my OCD go nuts) but I feel I’m stepping in the right direction with this. Then again, maybe I’m giving myself too much credit.
