Bows!

I’ve always been a go-getter for knowledge when it comes to being inspired by great things. When Lady GaGa’s pokerface video came out I immediately learned the (surprisingly easy) steps to creating the Hair Bow. I’ve worn my hair like this a few times, and have done it to many of my friends’ hair for nights out.

This night I wore it to the Bob Mackie Famed Art Collection Blogger get together. For those of you who don’t know, Bob Mackie is up there with Karl Lagerfeld as a TRUE fashion illustrator. Currently being released are his prints of vegas showgirls, weird clowns, colorful kittens, and ofcourse, plenty of fashion. The event was great, and I’ve always been a fan of Bob Mackie so it was exciting to pick out a piece to have shipped to my home! I chose the below piece in the blue shade but also seriously debated the cats. My kitten is staying with my parents for a month, and I miss him terribly. I am quite happy with my choice though!

The event had bowls of candy, Izze sodas and Perrier, and pop chips. Sadly, due to the weather and such I’ve been rather under the weather all week and barely enjoyed some water, but that didn’t take away from how great a time it was hanging out with other bloggers and meeting great new people!

Now, What I Wore:

This top is actually a dress, from the little girls’ store Limited Too from when I worked there for almost two years. The jeans, well. These jeans are by Vigoss….from well. Let’s not put a date on it, but I’ve had them since I was in 7th grade. So happy to still fit them, and so great that I kept them, what with the wide leg coming back in style!

And ofcourse, my favoured Aldo wedges and vintage bag.

Hope you enjoy, and don’t forget to follow me on BlogLovin or leave a note with a comment ❤

Vacation Inspirations

Every year my family takes a 10-14 day vacation to a family owned house on the beach front in Scarborough, Maine. This year, I’ve already started planning (slightly prematurely) what exactly I should be wearing and bringing, besides my usual simple plain tees, shorts, jeans, and hoodies for over my swimwear. I’d like to share with you my mid-summer vacation fashion inspirations.

(please note none of these images are my own. Almost ALL have been scrounged from Tumblr)

Things I’ll be sure to bring:

White denim

tribal top/s

caged wedges

long skirt

comfy knit (those Maine summer nights grow oh so cold!)

sneakers

tee shirts

Fringed tops

a nice dress, or four.

BOLD SWIMSUITS!

And just to warn you all, this vacation will be July 6-16th, so bear with me if my posting is sparse during those days, I may be too busy enjoying the sunshine and surf! 😀

Oh, and while jello shots are a definite, I think I’ll have to test my culinary skills to make these:

Concrete Jungle

I channeled my inner safari-an today for a look with my sparsely used caged wedges and some elephant jewelry.

After work I took my safari to where the wild things (of New York) are, the Cooper Park dog park.

My dad’s dress shirt

Thrifted Skirt

N.Y.L.A. caged wedges

Elephant necklace from my grandmother’s collection

Vintage/Thrifted chain necklace

Elephant cuff from a street vendor on St. Mark’s Place

Leopard and gold bracelets from Target

I’m really into animal jewelry from street vendors; you can always find such unique things whether you’re in SoHo, Chinatown, or St. Mark’s!

Tumblr/iPhone Outfit Purgings

As previously stated, my full time job and lack of personal photographer have hindered me from consistent posting. I’ve gone through my Tumblr now and saved some notable looks I’ve posted within the last month.

Obviously, though I don’t take daily better photos, I still manage to hold a fashionable look no matter what. I felt the need to validate that. Please feel free to check out more on my Tumblr here, or follow me on Twitter here!

Lower East Side

The weekend has taken new meaning to me since I have the normal 9-6 job now (weekdays actually ending around 8 due to classes). This weekend in particular was supposed to be busy doing final projects and studying…instead, I got drunk for two days straight.

Saturday I woke up in need of some brunch, so my roommate and I fancified ourselves and headed to the Lower East Side, to this delicious place, Sebastian. We started our morning there with a lovely bottle of Rose and mimosas.

After brunch, we shopped around in the hopes of finding an open fabric store to actually do my homework, but instead we found cute dresses and a mop pup!

Forever 21 dress

Men’s Heritage 1981 Cardigan

Aldo shoes

Vintage bag

We bar hopped for most of the day Saturday, and I had my first ever Bloody Mary…Which I did not like. We dined at Sebastian again for dinner, and everyone at the table raved about the steak, while the Penne with tomato and basil I had was honestly divine. I do suggest the restaurant for a lovely french date!

You’ve probably seen this all before…. but here goes:

Forever 21 Blazer

H&M Lace Tank

Vintage Maxi skirt

GC shoes

Peter Grimm Hat

Urban Outfitters Sunglasses

I’m kinda in love with this vintage maxi skirt I happened upon just in time for the trend to reach the runways, so it was fate. I’m planning to get a few more with my tax money, along with adding to my wardrobe, so less repeated items, yay!

Gold (and a smidge of Gray)

The weather has me feeling cooped up and bored, I just wanted to get dressed up!

H&M Sequined Dress (From 2 years ago)

H&M Earrings

Gifted Clutch

I should stop shopping at H&M so much…

Valentine’s Day <3

This year was the first time I’ve been in a healthy, quality relationship for Valentine’s Day. As an over-the-top kinda girl, I wanted to go above for a fancy night with my babe. We ate at Felix in SoHo, a delicious french bistro. Actually, it’s the restaurant Adam Sandler peed on in Big Daddy, so the bf was kind of stoked about that.

Max and Cleo Dress

Pauncho ring

Express Bracelet

Wild Pair shoes

Rose from my BF ❤

Thank god the weather here in NYC has picked up to a 45/50 degree average a day and I was able to go without tights! The dress fit rather well and left room for my imminent food baby.

After dinner the handsome man decided to buy some Patron, which we mixed with Orangina…delicious! Fruity and sweet yet not TOO sweet!

Bringing Sexy Back

Yigal Azrouel dresses as seen on RentTheRunway.com

Backless shirts and dresses have been popping up everywhere, a trend that I’ve been waiting for to explode.
I LOVE my back; its one of my few features that I love to show off and think it can be done so tastefully by anyone. 2 years ago I bought my first open backed shirts; a crocheted back solid off the shoulder top from Forever 21; I was so in love I bought it in black, gray, and mustard. When shpping for dresses for this upcoming spring, I’m finding it easier to find dresses that allow me to showcase this area of skin tastefully.

I’m seeing backless and semi-backless tops and dresses everywhere. American Apparel makes backless everything; dresses, tops, leotards, all in a number of styles from tank to long sleeve. These cost about $40-$80, but if you’re lucky and happen to hit up an AA rummage sale, you can find these dresses for $12 a pop, just like I did!

Another backless trend I’m seeing is the DIY cut up back. I first noticed this trend being done by a number of emerging fashionistas on lookbook.nu. Now, this post is going to be media heavy, but there’s jsut so many cute options!

I decided to create my own looks as well, inspired by the ones seen on the collective fashion website:

Now, before you say “ohemgee Sahra copied!” try to remember that there is no such thing as complete authenticity (look up Jean Paul Sartre if you’re unsure).  if you’re not feeling creative or don’t have the time or energy, forever 21 and TopShop have pre-made ripped tanks for purchase from $12.50-$55.

Dresses, shirts, and tanks can all be worn in various open backed styles, from classy to grunge-trashy. If you plan to DIY, bring some flavor and add some elements of personal style!
Now, go show some skin and bring that sexy BACK!
