3 Ways to Enjoy Mezcal for Cinco De Mayo

Less than one week until my favorite party of the year! Last year I was unfortunately terribly ill, but this week I have a friend in town and friends coming over and I’m so ready; give me all the guac! And Mezcal…

I’ve always been a fan of mezcal; it’s like tequilas funky flavorful aunt. They share the same genetics (agave) but mezcal is a less processed, younger form. It’s like tequila but with a smokier, less bitter bite so it’s better for sipping and enjoying, not that we don’t enjoy a few shots of tequila but it’s a different enjoyment that doesn’t end with us in smeared lipstick half-dressed asleep on the floor.  Last years trip to Mexico only exacerbated my love for this liquor and I’m so excited to share with you some of my favorite  recipes! Also, if you’re looking for a good mezcal to try, La Marca Negra is my favorite that I’ve found here in The States, and it’s only $55 a bottle!

First up is Z’s favorite way to enjoy this liquor- in a “red and stormy”. An updated dark and stormy, this drink calls for ginger beer (2oz), mezcal (1-2 oz depending on how frisky you want to get),  grapefruit juice (1/2 oz), simple syrup(1/2oz), and lime juice (a squirt!). Mix and pour over ice you get a smokey yet gingery-spicey drink that you won’t be able to put down!

Next up, the Mezcal Mule. Another twist on a classic, this one also involves ginger beer (6oz). Grab your mule glass, or a classic rocks glass, and a pint glass. In the pint glass muddle simple syrup with 3-4 leaves of fresh mint.  Add your ginger beer, 2oz of mezcal, and 2oz of lime juice, mix and strain over ice into your glass. Garnish with extra mint for a refreshingly smokey afternoon sipper.

Lastly,  like I said Mezcal is a great sipping drink; the easiest way to toss it back is the way they do it in Mexico. Take two shot glasses, fill one with your mezcal, and the other with orange juice*. Sip the mezcal, follow up with the juice, and sit back and enjoy the intoxicating flavors of a Mexican summer.

** other options include rimming your glass with spices, having a side of sliced orange, or a slice of spiced orange.

Have you ever tried Mezcal? What are you doing this Cinco De Mayo??

New American Classic

Outfit: As seen in my video haul! Wore this look out shopping with my mum, and to drinks and dinner with her and my father. A lovely retro vintage dress made slightly more “me” and modern with my over worn leather jacket, Aldo wedges, and Belt that was a gift from Alicat Avril Lemeiux.

Funny little bit: my mom and I ordered drinks, then realized we had coincidentally matched our drinks to our nails!

Nylon X StyleCaster X Sebastian

LAst week I had the pleasure of attending a special event with Nylon Magazine, StyleCaster, and Sebastian hair professionals. I brought along my friend Nicole, and it was an amazing night of vodka, fashion, and photo booth photos!

So much fun, and I’m loving my free copy of Nylon and all the great Sebastian sample products!

A Christmas Post

Christmas has come and gone in a sweep! I blame my lack of time on my full time seasonal position, which don’t get me wrong, I love!

But here, a short but sweet photo log of my Christmas, with a few captions and explanations!

(Flamingo garland)

(Calendar for the New Year)

(Marilyn Sugar Skull tee from my sister <3)

(my Maven, playing lazy Godzilla in my father’s Christmas village)

(Heat Tech shorts from Uniqlo, PacSun thermal)

(Family game of cards)

(Ended the night with sushi and scorpion bowls)

I hope everyone has enjoyed their holidays! I got plenty more things (just no pictures, but I’m in LOVE with all the tea’s I got and my fancy new pretty kettle, as well as more clothes!) Hopefully you see more of me and outfit posts soon!

Punk Rock Princess

Lat Friday I dragged myself off my couch to go to dinner with a couple blogger friends.I blindly got dressed in a matter of minutes when I realized our reervations were an hour earlier than I originally thought. I think I managed a pretty killer look, don’t you think?

For dinner we went to Cafetasia, this lovely little Thai fusion place right by NYU. Nicole and I opted for frozen daiquiris, hers being pineapple something and mine strawberry banana. Monroe and Nike stayed away from the liquor, but still had delicious drinks(we all shared a bit for tasting purposes). I had a salad, delicious veggie spring rolls cut like sushi, and obviously, rice. I must say, I’m a queen with chopsticks, even when I’m being a goon.

I wore this dress from the 80’s this nice little thrift store around the corner from my apartment. It was only $5! While I feel like I’m going to my 1985 prom, I still love it, especially when I punk it out like I did here with my Jessica Simpson boots,TopShop, Stein and Blye, and Bali bracelets, Peter Grimm hat, and Aldo three finger ring. My bag was also thrifted, from Savers in East Providence, RI. And now, I leave you with a music video.

NYC Fashion Bloggers Exclusive Event

So, some of you may know about this little group, and some of you may not. Last February I met two lovely ladies at the Independent Fashion Blogger’s convention in NYC. At the after party at the Chelsea Hotel, we realized we were the only attendees from the NY Metro area. We decided to meet for brunch the next day (Blogger Brunch anyone?) where our creative minds went wild.

We knew there were many fashion bloggers in NYC and thought it would be cool to find a way to meet them, go shopping together, go to events together…and thus, the NYC Fashion Blogger’s MeetUp Group was born.

Since then we’ve had some great events for our members from trunk shows, to fashion shows, to store openings and line previews. The group has grown into something the three of us couldn’t have imagined. Now, five months later, we teamed up with Women’s Mafia to create an exclusive event for 25 of our bloggers. With Arrojo Salons doing hair, make up, and eyelashes, Svedka vodka on drinks, Lora Condon reading excerpts from her best selling book Spa Wars (and supplying us with signed copies!), J Rudy Lewis giving us pieces from his jewelry collection, and Pop Up Studio taking fun pictures! It was quite the opposite of humbling to Yanil, Monroe, and I as we watched our baby of a group hit the highest of it’s peak.

So, if you’re a member of IFB and a blogger from the NY Metro area (we take New Jersey too!) feel free to check out the group, request to join, and I hope to meet you soon!! Also, if you’re form NY and looking to add some fun/spice/etc to your gathering, event or party, I fully advise Pop Up Studio…they even supply props!

For now, though, we bid you adieu.

StyleFixx Girls Night Out

Thursday I was invited to attend the StyleFixx Girls Night Out NYC, held at the Metropolitan Pavilion. I was told to bring guests, and I held a giveaway here (the winner was Chavon, hope you had fun girl!) and also brought my roommate, Yanil, Nicole, and Stephanie of the blogging group as well.

I personally loved the cranberry mojitos, and the swag bags were definitely swagger-ific. I loved getting an insight to emerging artists and designers and gathered a few favorites. Like Zack Lo, a shoe designer with styles that go straight to my heart; feathers, studs, spikes, lace, and fringe!

And all these rings and jewelries! How amazing are those cameo rings? They came in an array of sizes from little to statement pieced.

What I Wore:

thrifted black maxi skirt

Target/Mossimo tee

Stein and Blye gifted necklace

Bracelets from…everywhere

Left ring from Forever 21

Right ring from Urban Outfitters

GC studded flats

Oh, and ofcourse the AMAZING Swag Bag which included lots of healthy snacks, vitamins, hairspray, a face masque, lotion, and well, way too much to list!
