Getting My Kicks on Route 66

Being an AirBnB host we get to hear from all types of people about their favorite parts of the States. As previously stated, we set out to make 2016 the year of exploring more of our own country after hearing about it from all of our guests and last month’s trip was a great one to tack on to our logs!

After exploring Zion National Park and the Grand Canyon we set out to drive back to Las Vegas along historic Route 66 – the most famed road in all of the Americas. Passing through Williams, Arizona was a perfect spot full of “Rt. 66” kitsch to stop for lunch among a friendly town of equal parts tourists and locals. We stocked up on patches for our denim jackets, souvenirs for family and friends, and photos and memories to last a lifetime.

Dusted Pink

With this dreary weather and faltering temps it’s safe to say fall is in full effect. As sad as I am to have to be wearing tights I’m also excited to break out some sweaters and, of course, the leather jackets. I’ve been stocking up all summer with the perfect hues for my fall wardrobe; one color I can’t get enough of is a muted version of Pantone’s Rose Quartz, dusty pink.

Other fall trends I’m loving? The extension of the lace-up top trend into knits and lucite heels EVERYTHING. These ones are similar to Dior’s Spring ones but I’ve totally just ordered a velvet version of these exact boots too.

Monthly Musings Vol. 5

North and south ... the SE1 steams along the Vietnam coast.

Welcome to another month of my favorite reads! I started August on the beach for a family vacation; now I’m starting September on the go again — this time on a last minute Labor Day Weekend trip to the Grand Canyon! Be sure to follow along on InstaGram and Snapchat and check back soon for my posts about it.

In the meantime, here’s my favorite reads of the month, from wanderlust evoking lists to career advice and style musings.

  1. Obviously, I love to travel and there’s something magical about a train journey; I’d totally take any one of these trains! 5 more things for the bucket list!
  2. The Olympics were this month and with America being a reigning champion in most events it’s clear that the Olympic Fever is going to stick around a little longer this year. And when your favorite athlete came from a background like this, well isn’t that just the American Dream?
  3. This read had me taking style Q’s from the kiddos and totally missing that NYC feeling. You know, that feeling where anything goes sartorially and where no one judges you for your self expression? Yea, I miss that.
  4. I gave up caffeine a few months ago now and can’t believe how energized I feel. If you’re thinking about taking the plunge too I suggest you start with this read!
  5. Looking ahead to fall style and starting to curate my wardrobe. I can’t wait for all velvet err’thing.
  6. Speaking of looking ahead (far ahead) I found this Money Diaries about wedding planning absolutely fascinating. I am already so stressed for that part of my future.
  7. What to do when pups can’t get adopted? YOU HAVE A SLEEPOVER! Ohemgee guys I squealed (and maybe pms-cried) over this adorable read! Good thing they don’t have that in DC yet or I’d be owning a farm!

Wishlisting: (1) Moody and Velvet, yes please! Perfect for late Autumn eves. (2) The best tee for  the adventurer’s soul is right here. (3) Maybe it’s my freezing office, maybe it’s the impending fall, but I really really want to wrap myself in a cozy bell sleeved sweater until forever. (4) Fall bootie goals include ankle height and embellished; so glam! (5) Keeping with fall, it’s going to be pants weather again and I’m definitely needing some frayed hem denim; this under $50 pair is PERFECT!

Gonna Wear That Dress You Like, SkinTight

Do my hair up real, real nice
And syncopate my skin to your heart beating
‘Cause I just wanna look good for you

I knew I wanted a knit dress for fall; preferably turtleneck, cozy and cute. When I found this one by     at TJ Maxx it was love at first sight. The sleeveless and tight silhouette adds a touch of absolute femininity while still retaining its expulsion of fall vibes.Upon first trying it on I felt like a Kardashian-Jenner, with hugs in all the right places but not too much exposed skin. To be honest, I actually wore it to a Halloween party AS Kim K (with a giant pillow to resemble a pregnant belly). Paired with a nice jacket, like this old favorite, brings the look a bit more fall especially with the layers of texture.

Won’t you settle Down Baby Here Your Love Has Been

Ever since I heard the howlin’ wind
I didn’t need to go where a bible went
But then you know your gifts seemed heaven sent

Ah, this weather. It’s the reason I keep moving south. The lack of humidity in the air, the cool nights that turn into warm days amidst a yellow sunshine; the audible crunch beneath your steps. Fall in DC is a beautiful time (mostly), with balmy days and crisp evenings. I LOVE IT. Today was a beautiful 71 degrees and I’m so not mad to be back to wearing dresses sans tights, and am pretty stoked to get a bit more wear out of this off-the-shoulder dress.

Fall Wishlist

Each morning I wake up to another beautifully warm, humid, summer day here in the nations capital. Unfortunately, these mornings are starting to come with a crisp bite in the air as we flip our calendars to September reminding me that fall is indeed coming. Normally I’m the kind of girl who’s all about summer. Winter invokes an insatiable wanderlust in me as I take any and every excuse to vacation south or across an ocean. This year’s fall fashion however has me looking forward to those months with suede, leather, and knitted layers galore.

Heres a peak into what’s on my Wishlist for fall!
"Fall Wishlist" by sahra-schukraft on Polyvore featuring Topshop, Boden, Anna Sui, River Island, Coach and STELLA McCARTNEY

My wishlist highlights some of the hottest trends for fall; the continuation of all things tassel like with these gold and black pair.

Flare Jeans are back, b*tches! Get in on the 70s style while still remaining work (casual) appropriate with this cool pair from MiH.

A classic wool cape has been on my wishlist for quite some time. I’m still beating myself up over the vintage plaid one I passed on at a consignment shop last year. Lucky for me, the trend isn’t going anywhere!

Bell sleeves a la the peasant blouses of the early oughts are headed back in style. Paired with a karate style belted waist of a chic romper and you become modern bohemian royalty of the office.

As a proper wanderlusting soul, this “Nomad” enscripted cross body is perfect for weekend adventures! And, it’s by Coach, who has been making a new name for themselves that is already clearly resonating with me and other millenials.

One of the hottest pieces for the upcoming fall is a button front skirt. I recently took to Twitter to figure out your thoughts on denim, suede, or cord…and well, you’ll have to check back to see which one I ordered!

Lace up flats are the it shoe of fall; I’m loving these JC’s in navy for a paunch of color!

Last but not least…suede in fall is a wonderful marriage of cozy and sexy. This Anna Sui dress is everything I need! Plus, it’ll look great with thigh high socks as the weather gets cooler and a white turtleneck for when it starts to get bitter cold.

What do you think of these picks? What styles are you stocking up on for fall!?
