Hump Day Dupes

Back in October (has it really been that long!?) I introduced you all to a fun little side project of mine, UnderEmployed Fashionistas. I also shared with you one of my favorite weekly features, the Hump Day Dupes! Today, I’m sharing more of these as a cross post. I’d also like to say that if you’re interested in budget living, and/or music, we’re looking for more writers and contributors to help push the website into grander success! Shoot me an email at Sahra@underemployedfashionistas.com if you’re interested in joining!

On to the dupes…

lvWho doesn’t remember the iconic oversized checks of the Louis Vuitton runway, the coveted final collection of Marc Jacobs!? With gargantuan prints still being in style you can’t go wrong with this style steal. Romwe’s version is $24.99; compare that to the bank-breaking $2,500 price tag of the real deal.
fish bone backWith Fashion Weeks around the corner, our sartorial wheels are spinning as fashionistas everywhere look for the coolest, most unique inspirations. This jacket is a cult favorite; Christine Centenera of Harpers Bazaar Australia in a $1,995 Dion Lee jacket. What a pretty price, eh? For us budget inclined divas, Get The Look offers up this admitted dupe for $99. Still out of your price range? TARI DC (a local upscale thrift store, that SHIPS) has a version for $88!
mini mac vsThe Rebecca Minkoff Mini-Mac is one of the most covetable handbags of our generation. It’s been seen on bloggers, celebrities, and friends alike. But with a $200 price tag, even the occasional luck of finding one at TJ Maxx still puts it at $100 or more. Charlotte Russe is to the rescue though, with their very clear dupe at, wait for it….only $15! The leather, or lack there of, won’t be as buttery, but the aesthetic is there without breaking that new 2014 savings bank!
givenchy vsWhile us here on the Eastern Coast can’t even FATHOM the thought of sandals right now, these dupes are too good to wait until spring for. Compared to the Givenchy price tag of nearly $700, these Alloy pumps are higher and cheaper, by a long shot. At just under $30, these pumps are fabulous and fierce, and financially reasonable!
hermes beltThe Hermes monogram belt has been an iconic clean piece of the wealthy wardrobe for years. The real deal costs up to $600, even in the $300 range on Ebay. Why not take the thrifty approach and add a perfect dupe of an initial to an old (or new) belt for only $28? C. Wonder will supply the buckle, you do the rest!
burb sweatshirt
Starting off with another piece from one of the most coveted Fall/Winter 2013 collections. Burberry’s now iconic heart print is also available in sweatshirt form, with a price tag of…$1,295. For us thrifty fashionistas, Choies has a dupe for only $28.99! It may not be the silk blended v-neck, but it will surely still be warm and chic!

We’re Running Just as Fast as We Can

Fun summer look I wore to a sushi lunch. I’m loving the splatter effect with the perfectly on trend neon colors. I kept the theme going with a hot pink bag, pink lips, and neon green nails. Yea, NEON.

It’s True I Crave You

Loving this look I put together for a generic Saturday. Can I just gloat about how fabulous my a$$ looks? BA-donk. Sorry, I’m white and relish every chance I get to feel like I have some junk in the trunk.

Anyway, I’m wearing a new piece of jewelry in my collection! If you haven’t caught on by now, I have a lust for all things aquatic, and this sea horse bracelet is perfect. Eclectic Eccentricity sent it over the Atlantic to me! I love the antiqued gold aesthetic; so rusticly chic. Also, the website offers the bracelet in 3 sizes which means mine is daintily small and perfectly fits my wrist, which is hard to come by in my life thanks to my toddler sized wrists.

Rorschach

If you’re into fashion in the slightest you’ve noticed the rising trend of intricate mirrored prints. My collection is small, with this Forever 21 skirt from this outfit post, and my thrifted maxi from this outfit post, but I’m still looking to add more to my collection!

We’ve seen it with Jonathon Saunders, Givenchy, D&G, McQueen… and all the knock-off/off-price brands and shops. I think it’s safe to say this trend is sticking and it’s time to invest in a statement piece. What I’m currently lusting? These gorgeous mirror prints by Alexander McQueen (view the set here!).

Seriously considering dipping into my savings for this last one….can’t get much more ‘me’ than bone inspired lace in black!

What do you think of this trend? Also, the sale lace dress, worth a potential investment? Thoughts? Discuss, and be sure to check out MatchesFashion (where I found these dresses) for great other finds and deals!

Awkward Faces

My brother is my photographer when I’m visiting my parents’. This is good, because he understands composition and exposure and fancy camera stuff like that; he NEVER complains not matter how many times a day I ask him to grab the camera and press the buttons; he’s pretty much the best 15 year old brother a girl could ask for. Also, he snaps a photo pretty much every single SECOND. I mean, this is good since he can catch random more candid shots. Or, you know, he catches all the hideous goofball faces I make in between posing. On this cold, post blizzard day it looks like he captured the most hiedous faces. But it’s okay, I don’t mind sharing with y’all!

My Beauty Routine

I know no one has probably ever thought “wow, I wonder how Sahra does her make up”, considering I barely seem to wear any. But that being said, I have clean skin for a reason, and I still wear some quality products, so here’s my ode to those items that make me more comfortable in my own skin. Let’s start off with a picture of my uneven, make up less, face:

I always start with my Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Stress Control scrub. Then, with a fresh, dry face, I apply my Bare Escentuals matte foundation.

Disclaimer: I’m aware this shade is not correct for my face. I’m currently in between their lightest shade and this. I spent the money on this one and figured I’d just use it up until my summer skin fades back to their palest shade and then I’ll purchase that one. For now, though, this suffices and doesn’t look as bad in person as it does under the macro setting of my camera lens.

Next, I usually put on some eye shadow from my YSL palette before applying my eyeliner. I use Kat Von D tattoo liner in “trooper” and I swear you can’t get a better liner! The pen-like style makes it easy to handle, and it’s COMPLETELY smudge proof. Seriously, go to Sephora, draw a line on your hand, and then try to swipe it off-it won’t work.

The last step for my eyes, I use this Givenchy extension mascara. I love the subtlety of this mascara, and the round tipped brush is perfect for applying evenly. Lastly, I dab on some of my YSL lip gloss (the stay is long, and though it’s a gloss, it’s not overly sticky or shiny), and some Daisy by Marc Jacobs perfume. I have the bottle, the lotion, and the roller ball for this perfume so I’m never without my signature scent!

and Voila! My basic everyday beauty regimen!

I’m also thinking of doing an upcoming post about all my favorite lip gloss’ and sticks, what do you think? Let me know your thoughts on my beauty routine!

Hanging on to those last bits of Summer

Happy October First! Thankfully, the last day of September was a gorgeous 75 degree day, here in New York City. I was feeling inspired, and trying my hardest to hang onto those last bits of nice weather before the cold fully envelopes us.

I’m sooo loving this new lipstick as well (woah, yea, I’m wearing lipstick). I had been on the hunt for the perfect pink shade for so long, and found it one day at Sephora; Givenchy #23. But everytime I was there they’d have the sample but never any stock for me to buy! finally, though, in a spontaneous trip into the Times Square location, I found my lipstick. Perfection, isn’t it?

Rainy Boring Day…

My work’s closed this week for “maintenance” (I’m sure everybody has heard about the bed bug epidemic on 5th Ave, right?) and I had nothing to do but walk the dog today. By 6pm I was bored out of my mind and decided to do what I do best when I’m bored; futz around with make up and my hair!

I apologize in advance for the quality of the photos as this was a spur of the moment idea and they were all taken with my iPhone.

I started with my hair; it’s a pin-up/beehive inspired by Prada. I did it with the help of the tutorial that was posted earlier this week on The Fish Tank . That Fritha has wonderful tutorials, I must say.

My hair was difficult; it curls, which is both a blessing and a  curses when trying to tease hair. Mostly it was a curse though when I’d try and brush the front whisps over the teased hive. Also, my lack of hair on my left side of my head made it complicated. I had to force the other half of my hair to cover the entire hive… Next time I will have to keep some pieces out for smoothing.

Contrary to her’s and Prada’s ‘look’ I used a teal leopard printed scarf from Limited Too and tied it around my hair at the end of the process.

Next I decided some nice classy pin-up inspired make up would complete me. I used white shadow by Make Up Forever, my black Maybelline gel eyeliner, Givenchy mascara (the round brush makes for amazing lashes), and a dash of red lipstick to finish me off!
As you can see I’m totally bumming it in a KrushRadio tee shirt and sweatpants but hey! At least I managed to match 😉

Anyway, just a few fun pics of this fairly simple yet couture-like look. Be sure to check out Fritha’s tutorial here !
