I’ve definitely been toying with the 90’s grunge comeback with this look; I’ve had this shimmery dress FOREVER but have always had difficulty styling it, but I think I’ve nailed it here. The 90’s would be proud. I’ve also been doing this thing where I attach/embed the music that inspired the title of each blog post, do you guys like that? I figured it’s a good way to incorporate and add new things to my blog and share some of my musical faves with you! Let me know if you readers like it or find it a bother!?

As the Sky Darkens

Chipped neon nail polish and plenty of exposed skin. Summer, please don’t end. I never want to wear more than a casual leather jacket, draped across endlessly freckled shoulders.

Maybe these dreams could come true…I’ll keep you posted.

DiY: Leg Chain!

Pretty simple DIY I did the other day!

Materials Needed:

Elastic band

Thick chain

Thinner chain

Jumprings

Jewelry pliers and side cutter

I was able to find all of these products easily at Michael’s, and I must say I’m very proud of my cute new, pink, side cutter (only $7!)

Begin by cutting a strip of elastic to fit snuggly around your thigh and sewing it together. Then, but about a 6-8″ piece of the thicker chain. Using jump rings, attach this piece to the elastic, and this will be your center!

Next cut two (or more if you’d like) equal lengthed strips of the thinner chain (mine were about 12″).

Attach to the center piece using jump rings.

Slip it onto your thigh and voila! Fancy leg 🙂

1993

I went home to MA for a few days of relaxation, and relax I did. I lived in my Jesica Simpson combat boots as opposed to heels and jeans instead of dresses and skirts. I was wearing this Wet Seal laced crop top when I put on a flannel (from pacsun) for warmth and realized I looked like I had just walked straight out of 1993…grunge, piercings, colored hair, crop tops….My parents even had some Sunny D for me to drink!

MTV Movie Awards: Heavy Metal

I personally pride myself on not having cable in my apartment. Sadly, last night I was dying not being able to watch the MTV Movie Awards strictly for the style. Thank god for Twitter and Tumblr, though, for keeping me up to date.

One trend I noticed not going away just yet is heavy metals. Contrary to my textiles professor, metalic fashions are as hot as ever and look like they’ll continue to be. Here are some images of my favorite metal adorned looks from the awards show:

Emma Watson in Marchesa

Kristen Stewart in D&G

Lil Mama in Sherri Hill

Leighton Meester in Balmain

Nicki Minaj in an eclectic mix of Tom Tom, Atelier Versace, Pinko, and more

Mila Kunis in Balmain

Oh, how I love Balmain…someday, you guys, someday there will be some serious Balmain in my closet. And I personally love Lil Mama’s look with the black accents and contrasting white hair, despite everyone hating saying she’s just copying Nicki Minaj. Style is style and she’s doing what she can to stay on top of it, in my opinion!
