Have A Carrie Halloween

Halloween as Carrie Bradshaw #satc #manolos
This Halloween I ventured away from my usual Disney character and got a little grown up for a minute. Carrie Bradshaw here, live from the streets of the Nation’s Capital, bringing you style and sass!

The Black Swan

While I was Disney’s favorite mermaid for a party before Halloween, I went out on the 31st as The Black Swan. I think I did rather well with the costume, teamed up next to my friend Tree as a black cat (mee-owww).

Ariel, The Little Mermaid

20121029-072033.jpg
The weekend before Halloween and I, like, many other 20-something year olds, went out to party! My costume; my favorite Disney character of Ariel from The Little Mermaid. I wore a bandeau top from Wet Seal that I pinched together with string, along with a DIY maxi skirt, a thrifted “rainbow fish” cardigan from Saver’s, and my thrifted $5 seashell belt. I also used a vintage Saks Fifth Avenue handbag with netting and pearls and a fork from my kitchen!

BEG Movie Premiere

As previously stated, my first actual role (non extra) in a movie premiered last night in Providence, RI. Due to the WEIRDEST OCTOBER WEATHER EVER (note: blizzard. parts of the state received a foot of snow), I was all bundled up and not in any sort of fancy pants dress or anything.

I started the festivities with some drinks with my family at the Renaissance Hotel Bar, staying warm and cozy on their big padded sofa’s with delicious cocktails.

Then, we headed to the theater to snap a few pics before the movie began.

After the movie there was a Q&A with the fabulous director, Kevin MacDonald. They kept it short and sweet though, so we could all head home safely as the roads have been terrible. But still, a GREAT time and it was so nice to see the project come to life on the big screen!

Nails of The Week: Blood Drip

Last fall I’d seen an image of “bloody” nails floating around Tumblr and had attempted to try it out on my own. This did not work out well for me to just go from image to attempt, no tutorial involved (note the image below).

Thankfully, I found an actual tutorial a few weeks ago hinting to use a bobbie pin or toothpick to help draw the blood (d’oh). With the help of So, Hi’s Tutorial my 2011 attempt was MUCH more successful.

I started by cleaning my nails, then applying this Sally Hansen “sheer vanilla” for three coats, and letting it dry completely. Then, I applied a layer of this deep red from Forever 21 to the tips of my nails.

Next, the drip part. I poured the slightest, dime sized dollop of the Forever 21 red onto paper. I then took my bobbie pin and drew drops of blood, starting farther and dragging towards the tip strip. I also added a few teardrop shaped droplets to really make it look dripping.

Let dry and voila! Much better than my previous attempt and super eerie for this late October week.

And keeping with the theme, enjoy this blood dripping photo of me shot in August by Darkside Images. It’s pretty much my current icon for everything 🙂

Go Try It On Halloween

Tuesday night I was cordially invited to the exclusive costume party hosted by website GoTryItOn!  GoTryItOn is such a fun interactive site that I use where you upload pictures of your looks BEFORE you go out and people write their opinions! It’s like the old school webcam chatting with friends, but you get a vast range of opinions from people all over the world who loves style as much as you do. You can view my profile on the site here.

So anyway, they invited me to their exclusive holiday party in SoHo. The venue was decorated, the DJ was exceptionally great, and there were jack-o-lantern buckets of candy and fun costume extra’s on every table.

I went as Wilma Flintstone, though I kind of made my hair too big and my bones were hardly noticeable. I also convinced my “plus one” to let me paints his face for an hour into a skeleton, which turned out to be a huge hit!

I wore a white dress from rainbow, pulling a Monroe and staple-altering it! Also wore Bakers heels, a fringed bag from Limited Too, and a fur jacket that my mother had bought me for Christmas a few years ago.

The party was so much fun, and I can’t wait to get the pictures back from the photobooth there!

Also, please note this is my FIRST costume…there will be many more to come so stay tuned! ❤

If I were a Superhero…

To be honest, I love the IFB Weekly Projects. They’re always fun, sometimes challenging, and most of the time push me to step out of my comfort zone and think creatively. This week’s is all of that. Normally, I don’t even outright say that this is for their project but this time, I feel this post might have needed some explanation. This weeks project: Channel Your Inner Superhero.

So, if I were a super hero I would be a punk rock superwoman-meets-Ariel (from the little mermaid). Why?

I AM a superwoman. Anyone who’s known me in my highest times, I can do it all. For three months I worked full time, went to school full time, and still managed to blog and be a coordinator for the NYC Fashion Bloggers Meet Up Group. Now, though I’m currently just full time blogging, I know that there will come another day when I’ll be balancing more on my plate. I’m also a mentally and emotionally strong woman, and have sadly seen a lot of terribleness in my life. Being able to move on and be a healthy, sane young woman is my self pride.

Now, as for the Ariel aspect, I know she’s not a super hero but I love the sea. Everything about the ocean, the beach. I have the red hair, and I have tried to break out of where I come from to go somewhere new. Similar to Ariel leaving the sea to become human, I left my small-Massachusetts suburb for the big city NYC life.

The punk aspect should be self explanatory. If you haven’t noticed by now, I’m your unconventional fashion blogger, inspired by rock n’ roll looks, with an adoration of body modifications.

For this look I scrounged a bit of what I had in my wardrobe; American Apparel leggings, Frederick’s of Hollywood corset, a thrifted/vintage belt, TopShop choker, Anthropologie ring, and black boots from Aldo!

So, I know this is a little outside the norm for my blog posts, but what are your thoughts? Also, I’d love to hear all your plans for Halloween! I’m still unsure of what I’m doing as of yet, but it should be a fun time!
