You Led Me to the Slaughter, But I’m Someone’s Daughter

Cynthia Steffe Dress, Francesca's Headband

A. Wang told me neon was still a ‘thing’, so one dreary day I dug up this lacey summer favorite and added some weather appropriate layers. Nothing says winter like Uniqlo HeatTech (turtleneck and tights) and suede knee high booties.

Are you doing anything to wear your summer dresses this winter?

You know how there’s rules to life? There’s a big one; something like “don’t start a new job, buy a house, get married, have a kid, or any combination of those in the same year”. This little lady, who’s moved and swapped jobs more times than she’d liked to admit is knocking off two within a month. NO I’m not pregnant or getting married. If you follow me on InstaGram you may have seen that Z and I have been house hunting. It started with “just looking” but we soon realized the competitive and booming real estate market that is DC. So after finding a charming 3 bedroom fixer upper, we’ve made an offer; the same day I started a new full time job.
To call me overwhelmed would be an understatement. I’m a slew of emotions ranging from nervous, scared, happy, excited, tired, stressed, creative…with 3 bedrooms we’ll have a lot of space to decorate and have already started planning, designing, pinning, and I’ve even decided there will be more decor posts here on the blog (hope that’s okay that I drag you all along on this home journey)!
As for this outfit; this is one of my go-to summer dresses. Bold color, a shape that requires no bra, and fun to play both up and down. With this new job and the home stuff, outfit posts may get a little slower but I promise the premise of this blog will not change! You will still get your recommended dose of versatile style inspiration, of that I assure you!

Lace Batwings

I’m BACK! After a tumultuous October, I’m finally getting my life, and that includes this blog, back on track! The weather here in New England has been rather temperate, even with the impending Hurricane Sandy. I celebrated by going out in shorts, albeit UniqLo HeatTech, but still!

Rorschach

If you’re into fashion in the slightest you’ve noticed the rising trend of intricate mirrored prints. My collection is small, with this Forever 21 skirt from this outfit post, and my thrifted maxi from this outfit post, but I’m still looking to add more to my collection!

We’ve seen it with Jonathon Saunders, Givenchy, D&G, McQueen… and all the knock-off/off-price brands and shops. I think it’s safe to say this trend is sticking and it’s time to invest in a statement piece. What I’m currently lusting? These gorgeous mirror prints by Alexander McQueen (view the set here!).

Seriously considering dipping into my savings for this last one….can’t get much more ‘me’ than bone inspired lace in black!

What do you think of this trend? Also, the sale lace dress, worth a potential investment? Thoughts? Discuss, and be sure to check out MatchesFashion (where I found these dresses) for great other finds and deals!

Mall Haul

Went to the mall yesterday with my mum and friend Sabrina. Picked up a few little things whilst I was there (Thanks mom!)

Also new: Fresh ink!

Singles Day

Mmmm Valentines Day. The day where women put plenty of pressure on MEN and expect the most out of their loves ones. The day Hallmark and other greeting cards company make use of their red dyes.

Also, the day single people drown their sorrows in wine and grimaces. Obviously, this year I’m single. I spent the day blogging and doing some work from home, breaking in my new TopShop tights in an “all dressed up but nowhere to go” type situation. And then made my brother take photos when he got home from school.

Thankfully, my Valentine’s Day ended on a better note, with a three course fondue meal with my family and some good ol’ White Zinfandel wine and a box of chocolates.

Awkward Faces

My brother is my photographer when I’m visiting my parents’. This is good, because he understands composition and exposure and fancy camera stuff like that; he NEVER complains not matter how many times a day I ask him to grab the camera and press the buttons; he’s pretty much the best 15 year old brother a girl could ask for. Also, he snaps a photo pretty much every single SECOND. I mean, this is good since he can catch random more candid shots. Or, you know, he catches all the hideous goofball faces I make in between posing. On this cold, post blizzard day it looks like he captured the most hiedous faces. But it’s okay, I don’t mind sharing with y’all!

1993

I went home to MA for a few days of relaxation, and relax I did. I lived in my Jesica Simpson combat boots as opposed to heels and jeans instead of dresses and skirts. I was wearing this Wet Seal laced crop top when I put on a flannel (from pacsun) for warmth and realized I looked like I had just walked straight out of 1993…grunge, piercings, colored hair, crop tops….My parents even had some Sunny D for me to drink!

Bondage Ballerina

My upbringing and personal style has always been influenced by a more alternative route. I adore corsetry; the history of the pieces, the feminity of a well worn corset, the exuding sexuality of wearing one…I currently own two, as well as having made a few in my HS design years (actually came out rather good!)

Though corsets are meant to be worn as a subtle slimming beneath clothes, I’ve always found them gorgeous as they are. I’ve worn mine out on many a crazy party night, but am learning to wear them in a more fashion and daylight friendly way, as seen below.
