Ugly Sweater Season

Welcome to December; the month of holiday parties, ugly sweater clad whether it’s the theme or not. I was asked to model for a poster for an upcoming Ugly Sweater party by the talented Greg Easton, and jumped at the fun opportunity! I borrowed the sweater vest from my mom, and I love her, but she has quite the collection of hideous holiday themed knits. At least they’re fun and keep us jolly and laughing!

Styling by Sahra

This past Sunday I bravely faced my hangover and went to assist on a photoshoot with two long time friends, Greg Easton with model Colleen Leary. It was a ton of fun helping style and being an extra set of eyes and opinion, making sure everything was flawless for the images and helping with posing and locations. This was one of my first times working behind the camera (even if I wasn’t pressing the button) and it’s safe to say it won’t be my last!

Neon Cool

A perfect suburban summer casual cool look. Holy hell that’s a lot of adjectives, but it gets the point across. Half the time I feel too old to be rockin’ these “hipster” coined ensembles, but it suburbia, barely employed, I think it’s okay. And, I’m only 22, just barely out of my teens, or so I keep telling myself. There’s no rush to grow up just yet, even if there’s plenty of pressure.

We Live Half in the Day Time, and We Live Half at Night

A little day-to-evening post for you guys! I wore this dress (gifted by Hype Style) to the mall with my favored moto boots and jacket. Also, click here to check out the things I bought!

After linking up with my friend, we took a walk back to her place where, over a lovely glass of port, decided we would get ALL dolled up and go to the local gay bar for a Karaoke night. and when I say ALL dolled up, I truly mean it! Dark lips, high heels, and even wigs!

I finished off my night by getting a new tattoo; one I’ve wanted for YEARS; a quote from Shakespeare’s Hamlet that goes ” When Sorrows come, they come not single spies but in battalions”. I got it at a perfect time in my life as well, considering the last two weeks, and the last year of my life; so many hospitals and literal traumas. When things go bad, many things go bad.

Song of the Day:

Hope you’re all having a good week!

My Birthday!

20111217-111455.jpg

Thursday was My Birthday!! 22 years old, baby! And unlike many young 20-something’s I didn’t want to have a party at a club or bar, or go out and do shots or drink. What I wanted for my birthday was to go to Connecticut’s Mystic Aquarium.

Since it was my birthday I received free admission, and I had been looking forward to feeding the sting rays and doing a one on one encounter with the penguins. Like, I was telling everyone at work about how ecstatic I was.
Sadly, the aquarium only does those things in the summer months. While I did get to pet the sting rays and smaller sharks, everything else was a no go.

Still, I had an amazing time!

Can you tell I love jellyfish!? Also, look at these eels! They look straight out of the little mermaid!!

I had some fun in the gift shop as well, they had some “kanye shades”. I ended up getting this amazing jellyfish tee shirt as well!

After that fun afternoon of sea creatures, I surprised my parents back home! They took me out to dinner at a shockingly fancy, delicious, and well priced Italian restaurant in their town of Seekonk, MA called ‘Chardonnay’. The ambiance was great, with faux candles to set a calm mood.

With a bottle of wine and birthday cards we feasted on a Mediterranean pizza piled with spinach, olives, feta and onions; all my favorites!
I then finished off my birthday night with dessert and drinks with some local friends at UNOs.

Oh sweet, delicious success of becoming 22!

Go Try It On Halloween

Tuesday night I was cordially invited to the exclusive costume party hosted by website GoTryItOn!  GoTryItOn is such a fun interactive site that I use where you upload pictures of your looks BEFORE you go out and people write their opinions! It’s like the old school webcam chatting with friends, but you get a vast range of opinions from people all over the world who loves style as much as you do. You can view my profile on the site here.

So anyway, they invited me to their exclusive holiday party in SoHo. The venue was decorated, the DJ was exceptionally great, and there were jack-o-lantern buckets of candy and fun costume extra’s on every table.

I went as Wilma Flintstone, though I kind of made my hair too big and my bones were hardly noticeable. I also convinced my “plus one” to let me paints his face for an hour into a skeleton, which turned out to be a huge hit!

I wore a white dress from rainbow, pulling a Monroe and staple-altering it! Also wore Bakers heels, a fringed bag from Limited Too, and a fur jacket that my mother had bought me for Christmas a few years ago.

The party was so much fun, and I can’t wait to get the pictures back from the photobooth there!

Also, please note this is my FIRST costume…there will be many more to come so stay tuned! ❤

NYFW Day 1, Part 3: Astonish Magazine Launch

After being at the Arrojo 10th Anniversary party for about an hour or so, it was “on to the next one” as they say. I headed to the Gansevoort Park Ave for the Astonish Magazine Launch party. There was a fashion show featuring structural designs by designer Phuong My. Nicole of BlackShoesDiary and I went backstage to mingle with the models and snap some pictures.

With J Rudy Lewis (Jewelry designer!) and fellow NYC Fashion Bloggers Shnieka and LaDorian.

The magazine is amazing. It’s a more high end/couture style, reminiscent of my favored Zink magazine, but with brighter editorials (As opposed to Zink’s always dark, gloomy, and mysterious). My favorite editorial spread was the one entitled “Love, Lust, and that Bastard Called Desire”. something about the smoke, gas masks, and underlying themes of saddist sexism just entrance me.

The whole magazine is tres avant garde and impeccably procured. I definitely advice any fashion mavens who would like some stimulation unlike the normal Conde Nast and Hearst cookie cutter to pick this up!

NYFW Day 1, Part 2: Arrojo 10th Anniversary Party

During Joe Zee’s keynote speech at the IFB Conference, I made a dash for the bathroom to quickly change into a more suitable party ensemble for the rest of the night. The first stop was the 10th Anniversary party for Arrojo salons.

Walking in I notice Tatum, the lovely (and might I add, attractive) man who cut my hair at the last Arrojo event I attended was spinning as the DJ as the place swarmed with fashionable and awesomely tressed guests. I ran into Kimberly of Can I get a What What again, as well as seeing Keiko, and many of my NYC Fashion Blogger friends. As previously stated, my tousled locks stayed all night, thanks to KMS California.

Nick Arrojo VJ’d for a bit, talking about his fond memories of the beginnings of his now famed company. He spun a few oldies hits, then came to dance with us ladies, and “backing dat azz up” with Ashley and taking goofy pictures with all of us.

For this portion of my day I wore a gifted dress from Francesca’s Collection, along with my moto boots. I had originally planned to wear my Lady GaGa second skin platforms, but I hadn’t had enough to drink and was in too much pain to wear them for hours.

Stay tuned for part three of NYFW Day 1, and then FNO!
