Spring Wishlist: Marble Everything

Marble isn’t just for dreaming up your ideal kitchen plans anymore! Prabal Gurung and Helmut Lang (among others) have made it a spring trend on the rise! The stone printed trend has infiltrated all aspects of stylish aesthetic from accessories to workwear, athletic attire to phone cases. I’ve already hopped on the bandwagon with my Society6 phone case, but these wishlist items are on my radar, and hopefully soon in my closet!

What’s In My Bag: Styling Edition

If you’ve ever perused my “about” page, you may have seen the long list of taglines and odd jobs I associate with my name. Having been in the fashion industry for roughly 10 years, I’ve acquired various skill sets to use at different times. One of my favorite freelance projects is styling; pulling clothes from vendors and stores, accessories, shoes, etc. Going to a photoshoot or runway show and working behind the scenes.

Today I want to talk about what’s in my bag when I’m wardrobe styling! Whenever I get hired for wardrobe styling I need to make sure I have anything and everything I could possibly need for the clothes and the model on a photoshoot. I tend to pack these things into a large weekender bag, like this perforated black faux leather one by R&Em Rebecca Minkoff. With it’s long shoulder strap and dual short straps, it’s ideal for lugging around in the crook of my arm or cross body, which is great when you’re also carrying a garment bag of dresses and shoes.

One of the most important things I pack is my handheld Jiffy Steamer. It’s as reliable as its full size commercial counterpart, but with the portability of a hair dryer. Having this on hand makes sure I get out any wrinkles or folds in clothes before they’re shot, as well as making sure pleats are perfect!
PINS PINS PINS; a stylists bet friend. T Pins and safety pins and even clothes pins are all used to pull clothes that may not fit properly into place.
Baby wipes and dryer sheets; a little obscure but highly necessary. Baby whipes are sensitive enough to get off any make up that makes it’s way onto the clothes or deodorant stains without harming the delicate fabrics. Dryer sheets are a great tool for reducing static, which happens when models are changing in and out of clothes and accessories quickly.

Double sided tape is a necessity for making sure clothes drape the way you want them too, and for keeping boobies in them! I love Tide To-Go pens for a quick stain dissolver. And Vaseline is a great thing to have on hand for the models; the dewey glowing skin is a big trend, especially when doing a spring or summer photoshoot. One thing to remember though, is to keep it far from borrowed clothes, as the oils will stain.

What do you think!? Be sure you’re following me to see some behind the scenes shots of a recent shoot I did and the final lookbook!

I’ve Lost A Lot But I Won’t Let This Die

Simple outfit I wore to the mall to stock up on some fall pieces with my sister! Kept it fairly simple.

Sorry for my absence, I’ve had little support, morally and financially lately and was feeling really down and irrelevant (really; how could I define my life’s worth by whether or not I own Jeffrey Campbell’s). But with the help of a new job and a smidge of support from my mother and sister, I’m back! and though I’m taking a break from this season’s Fashion Week (the first I haven’t been a part of since 2008) I’m ready to dedicate myself and be back at it better than EVER come February. Until then, my outfit posts may subside, but I solemnly swear to update at least once a week.

Now, back to the outfit….

End of NYFW: Socialyte Co Party

After a few quick fashion shows at Greenhouse on Wednesday evening, I headed to Griffin for the Socialyte Co end of NYFW party hosted with Rebecca Minkoff. It was a fun-filled event full of bloggers of all tiers. I mingled with a few of my NYC Fashion Bloggers, including one of our newest members, Kate, who I’d been chatting with for MONTHS and only just now officially met! Drinks were sponsored by Bombay Sapphire gin, with special Rebecca Minkoff/NYFW names! My favorite was called the “Rebecca Minkoff” a, lovely mix of gin and pomegranate syrup. The DJ played throwback hits, having all the ladies dancing around. I got to see Kimberly of Nerd in Heels for the first time since her move to California, and met an amazing jewelry designer, among other industry people.

It was a blast, but sadly my NYFW wasn’t quite finished…

JC+LF+Sushi

Last night I attended the launch of Jeffrey Campbell’s new bag line at a Fourth of July party at LF stores in SoHo.  I walked into free lemonade from girls wearing various pieces of American Flag apparel (totally IN right now, right?) and cupcakes, cake, and everything themed. I immediately found my fellow blogger friends amongst the plethora of associates mixed with the “too cool for school” teenage crowd.

After saying hello and getting accustomed to the situation I took a look around the store. to be honest, I was scared for my life. LF Stores is the epitome of force fed fashion, catering to the personality and personal taste-less followers of the Nylon bible. You’ve got your crop tops, American flag shorts, fringed “vintage” tees, and all-you-can-wear high waisted “vintage” Levi shorts. Oh, and did I mention the Jeffrey Campbell Lita’s?

Amongst the rubble of fashion vomit I managed to find the Sam Edelman heels I’ve been lusting after, as well as this gorgeous kimono.

Okay, so I don’t completely hate the shop. I think, piece by piece, they are some amazing finds. But for the most part, I’d rather not be force fed my daily dose of Nylon Magazine’s poolings all at once.

Anyway, so after waiting through two bag giveaways (one of which was won by my dear friend Monroe!), 6 of us decided to go for sushi at Noodle Zen on St. Mark’s.

Since I’d already had sushi for lunch, I opted for a vegetable tempura udon, which was quite good, especially alongside my orange chu-hi beverage.

Now for what I wore:

Misfits tee from Hot Topic (DIY/cutout myself)

Forever 21 shorts

Aldo Wedges

Gifted R&Em bag (can be found here)

Peter Grimm hat

TopShop bracelets

And now I leave you with this photobooth strip of Nicole and I making funny faces! ❤

Thursday

As previously stated, Thursday I attended an exclusive preview of the Rebecca Minkoff Resort collection, where no photos were allowed. After it, however, a few fellow bloggers and I went to my favorite eatery, Cafeteria. Mac n Cheese spring rolls and french fries and salad; YUM.

With Cynthia, Monroe, and Preity.

I also suggest trying their signature blackberry lemonade, or if you’re into alcohol as much as me, try adding a splash of  vodka!

Rebecca Minkoff Resort Preview

While I am fully aware that resort season is MONTHS away (November is when the collections will be dropping) I’m still too giddy to not share what I saw at the Rebecca Minkoff Resort Preview. Granted, no picture taking was allowed, but I think this calls for me to finally WRITE something worthwhile for this blog and utilize my extensive education in English and writing.

I arrived at the exclusive preview event to a still-working-in-the-corner Rebecca (working on her collection of men’s accessories, Ben Minkoff) and a small group of mingling bloggers. Four mannequins lined the floor to ceiling windows dressed in the new collection, with a garment rack of more designs off to the side adorned with bloggers scoping it out and commenting on their favorite pieces.

The collection is said to be inspired by Rebecca’s favorite vacation destination of Saint Tropez, which was distinguishable in the collection. Bold turquoises, neutral militant greens, nautical themes, flowing hemlines, and minimal structure were all represented. Blogger favorites included femme moto jackets of either laser cut suede or white lace with contrasting zippers and asymmetrical hemmed maxi dresses. My personal favorites? A monochromatic teal ensemble of a lace top, lace shorts, and gorgeous tailored blazer that I cannot WAIT to get my hands on. I also quite enjoyed an abstract printed dress with a triangle cut out in the small of the back. What can I say, I love the subtle sexiness of random bare skin.

Next, on to what Rebecca Minkoff is known for, the handbags. The new collection held a piece for every trend and style; Navajo/native, nautical, classic leathers, vintage inspired muted tones, vintage inspired pastels, punk leopard and leathers, black rocker studs and bondage…you’ve got a style, they’ve got a bag for you! Of course, most of the bags come in the coveted Morning After Bag or Morning After Clutch, as well as wallets and strappy shoulder bags. Obviously, I’m craving everything black, leather, and studded.

The event also included Bethenny Frankel’s Skinny Girl margaritas and fresh fruit, as well as guided tours through the collection amongst the mingling.

Anyway, be sure to keep an eye out for when the collection drops, I know I’ll be sharing more with you!

Pinky Promises

It’s the end of the semester and I’m behind on about two projects…or four. I’m swamped at work and barely get time to sleep.

Hence my lack of updating. I apologize. I look fairly cute most days, in my opinion, and fashionable too, but there’s never time or anyone to help me with images. If you’d actually like to see my daily looks, feel free to follow me on Tumblr here. I post boobs and tattoos and other inspiring fashion images as well, but there is definitely a daily outfit shot taken with my iPhone, if you’d like to stay updated.

I was also in Baltimore this weekend, so I’ll have a post coming soon about that.

In the meantime, I wanted to pinky promise that, in two weeks when school is finished, you’ll see more posts from me. Thank you for staying loyal, my followers!

I leave you with a preview of Baltimore:

BlackAndYellow (and white)

It’s sunny, for the first time in DAYS. It’s Spring.

I recently reclaimed my yellow pants from my parents’ home last weekend and have been itching to wear them, and yesterday just felt like the right day at last. With the sun shining, sunglasses on, and a comfortable, relaxed “it’s finally Thursday” air it was the perfect ensemble.
