Never Meant To Break My Own Promises

Never Meant To Break My Own Promises

October Rains; still decently warm but the wet leaves pose as a reminder of the coming cold. I’m embracing transitional styles; sleeveless leather and open tow mules (love the 90s reinvention!). Thrown in with some polarized and eco-friendly sunglasses and some glam jewels and I’m feeling like my edgy self!

We’ll Ride the Coattails to the Finish Line

Outerwear as dresses seems to be a growing trend, especially among celebrities; from Red Carpets to daytime events to late night talk shows. I figured I’d try my hand at the trend with my favorite ornate jacket (and some subdued under-layers for posterity). Added some grey and gold accents and voila! What do you think of this trend? Have you seen it on the celebs or other bloggers!?

Made a Career of Composure

all of the things you’ve accomplished

I’ve been doing the 9-5 grind for a bit now, and I must say I’m digging it. My first weekends-not-required job since doing corporate fashion in NYC and I love it even more than I did then. Maybe because I have someone to truly relish and take advantages of weekends with, or maybe it’s that I’ve matured to have a sartorial taste for classier dressing (at least most days of the week). I think my multitude of magazine subscriptions aides in the workplace style inspo, but I’m still my frugal and funky self. When I saw this two piece vintage suit at Buffalo Exchange I thought it was amazing. With suit sets coming back in style (with a definitive modern flair) I needed to try it on and once it was a perfect fit I knew it was fate. Ten buckaroos later I sheepishly/excitedly sped to happy hour with Z where I nervously awaited his reaction to my spur of the moment splurge. He approved, acknowledging “I know you’ll make it look good”. And here we are today; I think I nailed the modern business style, what do you think!?

I shine, the city never looked so bright

This is a super fun, pattern playing look that I wore recently to the grand opening of Calypso St Barth’s in Georgetown! I love the fashion forward yet office style feel of the look, and the comfort factor was a major plus. The ensemble was also great for the amazing networking and mingling at the event; shout out to the lovely new ladies I met!

There’s been this mural by my apartment for ages, and I’ve always liked it for it’s visionary; picture ginger and mint together…
The restaurant closed a few months ago, and I’ve been dying to get my butt over to shoot in front of this before they repaint it, but had to find the perfect look and weather, and I think I nailed it!
Also, how do y’all like my new hair!? I’ve realized, through my TimeHop app, that every February brings major hair changes. 2009 I went from blonde and pink to bold red, 2011 I went bolder red, last year I opted for dark locks and this year? Short and chic…VA VA VOOM

Your Love is Brighter than Ever, Even in the Shadows

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I chose this song for today’s blog post 1, because Beyonce’s new album was heavenly and this song is one of fourteen beautiful songs on the album, and 2, because try as he may have to avoid getting in these shots for the blog, my boyfriend fails and is creepily in the shadows. :p Good thing he rocks some good style!
This look is more of an office type look for me, cozy, conservative, but still a bit fun. This snood was one of my christmas gifts, and thankfully I received it in time for this big deep freeze; it’s perfectly cozy, chic and oh so warm!

Honey and I

_MG_6535Another fun double-style post! The beau and I, as style savvy folks, love getting dolled up and going out on dates. We wore these out to dinner at an amazing DC Meditteranian restaurant called Zaytinya. They had a hearty amount of veg-friendly dishes, served tapas style which meant sharing, and I had my first taste of Ouzo!_MG_6549_post  _MG_6558_post _MG_6566 _MG_6582 _MG_6585_c_postvelvet GAP dress thrifted via Savers/Value Village

I Learned Everything I Know From Watching Movies

A fun fall-ish look that I’ve worn a version of a couple of times so far since the leaves have started changing! I love being in the mid-Atlantic and how it’s late October and, save for a week of chills, the weather is still temperate enough for me to tolerate sans multiple layers. Unfortunately, these photos were taken WEEKS ago, but the photographer has gone MIA with the final edits, so excuse the watermarks. Anyone know any photographers in the DC area that are consistent with a quick turnaround!? send them my way!

Crystal, Maybach, Diamonds on Your Timepiece

SaraSLarge-3
Life in DC is ever-changing for me; I crave stability. I’m getting to that age of settling and nesting, yet don’t yet have the means or life stability to accomplish this. So I keep on trucking, faking it till I make it, or something like that. Just Keep Swimming, I tell myself, and feign everything I desire to be true. I apologize for the lack of updates; it’s hard meeting people in this judgemental and cliquey city as an outsider, whether that be quality photographers for my bloggy here, or friends to dine and drink with. It’s never been this hard; a social life is just another thing for me to fake till I have right now. At least I can look good while I do it.
