I’ve definitely been toying with the 90’s grunge comeback with this look; I’ve had this shimmery dress FOREVER but have always had difficulty styling it, but I think I’ve nailed it here. The 90’s would be proud. I’ve also been doing this thing where I attach/embed the music that inspired the title of each blog post, do you guys like that? I figured it’s a good way to incorporate and add new things to my blog and share some of my musical faves with you! Let me know if you readers like it or find it a bother!?

Lace Batwings

I’m BACK! After a tumultuous October, I’m finally getting my life, and that includes this blog, back on track! The weather here in New England has been rather temperate, even with the impending Hurricane Sandy. I celebrated by going out in shorts, albeit UniqLo HeatTech, but still!

I’ve got some posts queued up for you and some things in the works for all you loyal followers. Thanks so much for following and being so patient, and for all of your kind words in my time of absence! ❤

Lush Cosmetics

For those of you who don’t know, Lush’s much anticipated cosmetics line “Emotional Brilliance” just launched! As a frequent shopper at Lush I’d been waiting for this to arrive since they unveiled their concealers and foundations. I was also ecstatic that they’re all made with vegan ingredients and way brighter than I could have imagined.

So, coming in to the beauty counter the sales representative begins with a color reading. I pick out the first 3 colors that catch my eye and am explained the emotional meaning behind my choosings.

I’m explained that I’m feeling secure in my own skin, craving being in charge, and I’ll get that when I feel calm. Eerily true considering how I am confident in myself but sick of living in the chaos of my parents’ home.

Next up comes the fun part, trying on the colors! They’re all very hyper pigmented so I figured I’d do something fun and bold. I started with “Dynamic” as my eyeshadow, which went on as smooth as butter and dried quickly and evenly. I then used my “Calm” blue as eyeliner, and dabbed on some “Strong” as lipstick, which reminded me of my all time favorite YSL I have at home. Finished off with a swipe of “Eyes Right” mascara and voila! I was in love. Also, I was informed that because all the colors are made of the same materials and are basically all the same cream, they’re pretty much interusable as liners, shadows, and lipsticks; and at $22.95 for 8oz of product, it’s really not that bad of a deal!

Now, I was wary the color would fade or bleed, but after hours more, a rain storm and a nerf gun fight, the colors were still bright as day. They remind me of a vegan, creamier version of Sephora’s Make up Forever line.

Have you tried the Lush Cosmetics line? What did you think?

Awkward Faces

My brother is my photographer when I’m visiting my parents’. This is good, because he understands composition and exposure and fancy camera stuff like that; he NEVER complains not matter how many times a day I ask him to grab the camera and press the buttons; he’s pretty much the best 15 year old brother a girl could ask for. Also, he snaps a photo pretty much every single SECOND. I mean, this is good since he can catch random more candid shots. Or, you know, he catches all the hideous goofball faces I make in between posing. On this cold, post blizzard day it looks like he captured the most hiedous faces. But it’s okay, I don’t mind sharing with y’all!

Fall Uniform

I’ve legitimately already worn this outfit three times. Begging my roommate to take photos of it and he always refused, so I’d wear it again. Why not? It’s cute, comfortable, warm…It’s my perfect fall uniform! So, in lieu of football being on ALL day, I was able to strike a deal in exchange of photos for the television rights.

I made this skirt, and a matching vest, straight out of high school. I have never attended a private school but I sometimes ponder how things would have played out differently if I had. Would it have hindered my sartorial experimentation, or would it have challenged me and forced me to hone in on proper accessorizing?

In present times, though, my only problem is that I’m not currently in school. I miss education, learning, and challenging myself with projects and my high aspirations for good grades. Who knows, hopefully I can go back to school someday but for now I’ll keep wearing my burgundy plaid skirt and working my dream in the fashion industry.

My Beauty Routine

I know no one has probably ever thought “wow, I wonder how Sahra does her make up”, considering I barely seem to wear any. But that being said, I have clean skin for a reason, and I still wear some quality products, so here’s my ode to those items that make me more comfortable in my own skin. Let’s start off with a picture of my uneven, make up less, face:

I always start with my Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Stress Control scrub. Then, with a fresh, dry face, I apply my Bare Escentuals matte foundation.

Disclaimer: I’m aware this shade is not correct for my face. I’m currently in between their lightest shade and this. I spent the money on this one and figured I’d just use it up until my summer skin fades back to their palest shade and then I’ll purchase that one. For now, though, this suffices and doesn’t look as bad in person as it does under the macro setting of my camera lens.

Next, I usually put on some eye shadow from my YSL palette before applying my eyeliner. I use Kat Von D tattoo liner in “trooper” and I swear you can’t get a better liner! The pen-like style makes it easy to handle, and it’s COMPLETELY smudge proof. Seriously, go to Sephora, draw a line on your hand, and then try to swipe it off-it won’t work.

The last step for my eyes, I use this Givenchy extension mascara. I love the subtlety of this mascara, and the round tipped brush is perfect for applying evenly. Lastly, I dab on some of my YSL lip gloss (the stay is long, and though it’s a gloss, it’s not overly sticky or shiny), and some Daisy by Marc Jacobs perfume. I have the bottle, the lotion, and the roller ball for this perfume so I’m never without my signature scent!

and Voila! My basic everyday beauty regimen!

I’m also thinking of doing an upcoming post about all my favorite lip gloss’ and sticks, what do you think? Let me know your thoughts on my beauty routine!

Material Girl in a Material World

Normally, I’m your classic New Yorker with an allergy to department stores, or I was until the Material Girl collection dropped for Macy’s. Since it’s launch I’ve been an avid lover of each collection and delivery. Flowey tops, trendy blouses, perfectly sheered dresses…The line is so on-trend at such a great price, with just the rocker edge to go with my style.

On my most recent excursion to Macy’s there was just so much I loved about everything they had available! While obviously I couldn’t afford all I wanted, I went home with this gorgeous blue sheer top, with bat-wing type sleeves. It’s perfect for my style! I immediately knew how to work it into my closet in so many ways, the first way with these higher-waisted pants from H&M (since the top is slightly cropped) and my beloved wedges.

Also borrowed my BFF/roommates purse, by Worthington. I was in need of a change of bag, but something still classic and basic. This quilted and chained bag has been treating me well for the past couple of days!

PS Don’t forget to check out my Hallie Friedman Jewelry giveaway by clicking this link! And now I leave you with a candid photo of me later this night that I happen to love. Mostly for the fact of the Detroit sign in the background (the bar was called “Motor City” and is Detroit/auto shop themed).
