We Know That Our Hearts Are Just Made Out of Strings

IMG_7744IMG_7755
A second post from the whirlwind that has been my settling into life in the DMV! It’s been tedious…It’s been work. I’ve been unpacking, working, traveling, trying my best to explore and socialize, et cetera. What I’m craving most? A nice, relaxing evening involving a chill bean bag (remember those!?) and a movie with a bottle of wine, or a champagne cocktail. Alas, there’s much to be explored as I’m on the hunt for the perfect blog photographer, group of friends, brunch restaurant, lunch spot, dinner diggs, quality man; amongst maintaining my life at my new “home” with friends and new job. Confused/overwhelmed? So am I. These photos were shot by an area photographer, Kevin, who’s work can be found on his site here. He’s got a great eye and some great ideas, so I’m hoping you’ll be seeing more of his work up here!

I’ve definitely been toying with the 90’s grunge comeback with this look; I’ve had this shimmery dress FOREVER but have always had difficulty styling it, but I think I’ve nailed it here. The 90’s would be proud. I’ve also been doing this thing where I attach/embed the music that inspired the title of each blog post, do you guys like that? I figured it’s a good way to incorporate and add new things to my blog and share some of my musical faves with you! Let me know if you readers like it or find it a bother!?

Blue and Gold

Fun little, slightly overdressed, ensemble I wore to dinner last night with an old friend. I always seem to be over dressed in this suburban town, can’t wait to be back city dwelling!

Simple Summer

Simple summer look. I’m currently packing to leave for my annual Maine beach vacation, and leaving tomorrow so I’ve got my work ahead of me! I’ve also started writing and working on a few new projects so it’s a lot of days of me sitting in front of my laptop in shorts and a tank top. Like this oldie but goodie H&M tank, Forever 21 shorts, and CG flats from Barami.

New American Classic

Outfit: As seen in my video haul! Wore this look out shopping with my mum, and to drinks and dinner with her and my father. A lovely retro vintage dress made slightly more “me” and modern with my over worn leather jacket, Aldo wedges, and Belt that was a gift from Alicat Avril Lemeiux.

Funny little bit: my mom and I ordered drinks, then realized we had coincidentally matched our drinks to our nails!

RockStarrrr and Giveaway Winner!

I wear these pants I studded myself more often than I showcase on this blog…They’re amazing, and so much fun to just sit here and rub my knees with the palms of my hands.

Shirt by UncleDJ

DIY jeans

J. Simpson boots

Bracelets from Bali, Bloomingdale’s, and Target

Not the best photos, but meh. This shirt was a gift from a pretty awesome DJ friend of mine. We actually met as I discussed the irony and “hipster” fad of his logo, but even I came to wear something with a mustache on it, in support of him and his work.

Anyway, onto what you’ve been waiting for….and the winner to my favorite beauty products giveaway is…..

Congratulations! expect an email from me shortly ❤

Thanks to everyone who participated! Hopefully I’ll do another giveaway soon!

Rainbow Fish Monday

This cardigan is quickly becoming my favorite, I don’t care how many people seem to hate on it. Blue/Teal/Green big sequins? Yes Please.

I wore this outfit to the doctors, classy, I know. Where I found out JUST how sick I’ve actually been. With the prognosis, my mom felt bad and took me out for a nice lunch of Spike’s Junkyard Dogs followed by some mall adventures.

After the mall we continued with the retail therapy at my favorite thrift store, Saver’s! I found a gorgeous semi sheer rose dress for $3.99 and this lilac faux ostrich jacket for, wait for it… $2.99!!! talk about aSTEAL! When I stopped at Target for my antibiotics, I picked up Esse’s “She’s Picture Perfect” to match.

The best part has to be that the cashier thought I looked so good in the dress, he stamped our coupon card an extra bunch of times…We only spent $10, you get a stamp for every $5….. you do the math!

I’m off to enjoy some antibiotics and penne alfredo and kick this cold before my trip next week! Sorry there’s no recipe this week, no one will eat anything I cook due to my sickness :/

ps! Don’t forget to enter my giveaway of my favorite beauty products here!  You could win a Dior nail polish, Dior mascara, Kat Von D eyeliner, and Garnier moisturizer!

Life is Too Short to Care What Others Think

Getting in on my spring time brights and breaking out some sneakers. These are one of my favorite pair of kicks, but living in NYC I rarely find wear for them, so I’m sure they’re happy I’m in MA for a few weeks. Sure, shoes can have feelings too, right?

Thrifted jacket from Saver’s

Forever 21 dress

Shirt C/o WordBoner (buy it HERE)

Charming Charlie’s bag

Converse sneakers

bracelets from Bloomingdale’s, Target

Forever 21 sunglasses

Also, this is one of my favorite tee shirts ever, for obvious reasons. Crass and bold, and it always gets people to stare at my chest, for better reasons than is more common!

NYFW Day 1, Part 1: IFB Conference

Yes, my first day of NYFW is being broken into separate posts. It was a 20 hour day, beginning bright and early by waking up at 5am to get ready and be at Milk Studios for 7am to volunteer for the Independant Fashion Bloggers Conference. I’d attended last year as a guest and was excited to be a part of the behind the scenes this year.
I arrive, immediately followed by fellow friend’s and NYC Fashion Bloggers Yanil, Monroe, Tessa, and Ashley. There isn’t much for us to do at first so we mingle and chug down our coffees,as we chat about the biggest thing in the room.

That “biggest thing in the room” is Marina, the living doll who texts’ as the woman for Missoni for Target. She’s all over NYFW and totally stylish!

By 8am it’s time to start preparing check in for the arriving guests and as soon as I get the chance I have KMS California do a quick number on my hair. My sweet hairdresser was a tattooed dude in a plaid shirt and yellow bow tie, so obviously we bonded as he put some soft waves into my hair that eventually proved solid as they lasted into the night.

As the room starting filling up with bloggers, old and new and from all parts of the world, I began seeing old friend’s as well as making new ones. People LOVED my DIY studded jeans! They proved to be a great conversation starter with said new acquaintances. I was also wearing my Jessica Simpson boots, which I now pretty much live in, along with a wet seal tank an Champion sports bra. I also carried my life’s supply in a matching gifted satchel from Francesca’s Collection, which can be found here.

The panels for the conference were alright, in my opinion. I felt the topics were very geared to newer bloggers (reiterating the importance of Twitter and other social media outlets to gain traffic, being yourself, approaching brands) though I can’t say I didn’t learn anything new and worthwhile.
Personally, I especially loved the panel about balancing business and blogging. As many of my followers know, I’m a jack of all trades here in the fashion industry. It was brought up to keep your professional life outside of blogging from being represented too prominently in your blog, even if you work in fashion. I also was inspired by Coco Rocha’s stance on being a good person and role model to help brand herself as an individual.
In the last panel, topicked around the evolution of fashion media, a major point that kept arising was the importance of staying true to yourself as a person more than as a brand. As is human nature, people change and style’s may mature or alter. Mary HK Choi, of MTV Style, noted that that’s okay to represent in your blog, as it is yours. I associated with this point because, readers as you know, I’m a woman of constant change and versatility. One day I’ll be in a floral dress looking wholesome, the next I’m back in my combat boots. I hope you guys enjoy my versatility and ever changing self (and hair).

I was honored to get the opportunity to interview the speakers from this panel for the IFB website. Ari Seth Cohen, though baffled by the questions and being put on the spot, was a wonderful speaker with great experience and words of wisdom to share. My favorite person to interview was Mr Mickey, editor of PaperMag. As a Williamsburg resident I’ve been familiar with the “hipster” popular magazine and all it stands for, but Mickey is a better representation of what the magazine stands for; fierce, fun, outspokenness, and being fearless. I loved that his favorite part about the convention was the diversity, a favorite factor of my own. You meet so many diverse people from, in his own words, “people of color, people with tattoos, and girls with blue hair!”

Moving onto my next point; apparently my spontaneous hair change was spot on with a current trend, or maybe just a coincidence. Nubia of IFB had dip dyed tresses, Hannah of The Fashion Hash had one side/streak of dipped blue, and Kimberly of Can I Get a What What had teal and purple mixed in with her blonde and black layered look. Now, I don’t know about you, but I think we’re onto something here!

Well, this concludes my IFB post. Stay tuned and follow for part 2 and 3 of my NYFW Day 1!
