Recipe Monday: Mandarin Mango Curry “Chickn”

Ever since my mom accidentally bought Gardein brand faux meat I’ve been in love, experimenting and cooking weekly with all the different “meats”. Finally, I came across what in my mind can only be called a perfect meal. I introduce to you, Mandain Mango Curried “Chick’n” over brown rice with spinach leaves.OH YES.

Ingredients:

Gardein Mandarin Chicken

Brown rice

Bag of Spinach leaves

Archer Farms mango curry sauce

Mayonnaise

Vegetable oil

Begin by boiling your rice, or tossing it in the microwave like I do with my boil in a bag style.

Pour some oil into a pain and begin frying your “chicken”.

While that is frying, take your mandarin sauce, mango curry, and mayonnaise and combine in a small bowl. It should be about equal parts mayo and mandarin sauce, and as much mango as you’d like (I use quite a bit). Feel free to add some extra red pepper flakes if you’d like it spicier!

Once everything is done cooking you can put it together. Now, I have OCD so I’m really particular about the presentation. I start with about 3/4 cup of rice in each bowl, then add on a thin layer of spinach leaves, then the “meat”, followed by the pouring on of the curry.

Enjoy!

Like I said this is one of my favorite meals I’ve learned to cook. Let me know if you try it!

Recipe Monday: Breakfast Sushi + FoodStaGram

If you’re looking for a simple, yet satisfying and unique breakfast; THIS IS IT!

Ingredients:

peanut butter

flour/wheat wrap

banana

Step 1: Spread peanut butter generously over the entire surface of your wrap:

make sure it touches the edges, as it will hold together better.

Step 2: place banana to one side and roll, tightly.

Step 3: Cut off the ends, then cut about 3/4″ pieces.

Step 4: bust out your chopsticks and enjoy!

Now, FoodStaGram. I know I hadn’t posted a recipe in weeks and I’m terribly sorry! It’s not because I haven’t been cooking, I have! I just forget that maybe I should take pictures/document until I’m halfway finished whipping up a meal.

So, in exchange for those missing weeks, I give you FoodStaGram. A collective of food images from my InstaGram feed!

When It’s Too Cold To Leave The House

DAMN it’s cold out. 16 degrees? No thanks, not unless I absolutely NEED to venture outside.

So what did I do inside all day? I learned how to do a french twist and attempted to recreate Lady GaGa’s hair from the dance rehearsal portion of her “Marry The Night” music video. Threw on a little white eye shadow, cat eye liner, and vampy red lips and had myself a mini photoshoot of sorts in my bathroom!

I know it’s not the best, but I’m thinking I could practice till it’s perfect!

Thoughts?

Nails of The Week: Blood Drip

Last fall I’d seen an image of “bloody” nails floating around Tumblr and had attempted to try it out on my own. This did not work out well for me to just go from image to attempt, no tutorial involved (note the image below).

Thankfully, I found an actual tutorial a few weeks ago hinting to use a bobbie pin or toothpick to help draw the blood (d’oh). With the help of So, Hi’s Tutorial my 2011 attempt was MUCH more successful.

I started by cleaning my nails, then applying this Sally Hansen “sheer vanilla” for three coats, and letting it dry completely. Then, I applied a layer of this deep red from Forever 21 to the tips of my nails.

Next, the drip part. I poured the slightest, dime sized dollop of the Forever 21 red onto paper. I then took my bobbie pin and drew drops of blood, starting farther and dragging towards the tip strip. I also added a few teardrop shaped droplets to really make it look dripping.

Let dry and voila! Much better than my previous attempt and super eerie for this late October week.

And keeping with the theme, enjoy this blood dripping photo of me shot in August by Darkside Images. It’s pretty much my current icon for everything 🙂
